Morgan Stanley raises Neptune Orient Lines (N03.SG) target price to S$1.85 from S$1.50 on back of earnings upgrades, higher assumed valuation for container shipping operations. Broker says shipper should be "key beneficiary of transpacific rate hikes," with freight rates on transpacific and Asia-Europe routes recovering faster than expected. Says container shipping industry still faces oversupply but container liners keeping supply on the sidelines at present, helping to drive freight rates up from low and unprofitable levels. Expects this trend to continue over next 3-6 months, supported by retail industry restocking. Broker trims FY10 loss per share forecast to US$0.04 from US$0.10; raises FY11 earnings per share forecast by 57% to US$0.11. Maintains Equal-weight rating on valuation grounds but says investors should accumulate stock below S$1.60. Shares +0.6% at S$1.74; STI +0.9%.

Today surge all the way, lucky I buy at $1.69 2 days ago but get out today, scared lah! Maybe still can go up.

increase in container volume  but most shipping line company (i.e NOL ) offer cheapershipping cost rate per container during the bad time last year . This explain why their revenue has drop.

Its annual operations LOSS is guaranteed above S$1 Billion....

WHO are buying????

Can SGX be TRANSPARENT on this????

danielb      ( Date: 27-Jan-2010 12:00) Posted:

Really odd why anyone would want to push up this stock. If you check the SGX site and look at NOL's period report for the last 3 periods (each period is 6 weeks) - you will see that container volume increase but revenue per container transported has dropped. This means it is moving more containers (which increases its cost) but earning less for each container moved. It is almost guaranteed that it will post a loss in its next quarterly report.

The bulls are fighting strong for this stock.

If the price hit 1.72, it's a good time to buy.
