If i post here, i've nothing good to comment about this counter :( The reason is simple. denfensive play for saf project. most likely to be in down trend/sideway as government project was their first priority. commerical orders most probably face tough competition from worldwide shipship...
If hope for aerospace orders, i think is wiser to switch to sia engrg... my view.

Any adv for this counter?
ST Engineering: Deutsche has Buy Call with $3.95 TP. Note that global airline traffic and capacity growth started off strong in 2011, with Jan 11 traffic +8.2% YoY. While Jan's numbers do not factor in airlines' reponse to the spike in oil prices seen in Feb, note that capacity growth seen in the mth was the highest since Feb08 and up from 8.2% growth in Dec 10 despite increasingly difficult comps….
Importantly, developed markets contributed to strong overall growth, with North America reporting a 10% YoY increase in capacity and Europe capacity +8.8%. Airlines appear to be reacting to accelerating and sustained traffic, with Jan overall capacity growth outstripping traffic growth for only the second time since Aug08. Aside from the strength in North America & Euope, emerging markets growth was also strong, with average capacity growth of 11.1% YoY on traffic growth of 10.7%......
STE has guided for 2011 pre-tax income growth in its Aerospace division (40% of grp earnings). Add that prospects in this business appear healthy following global airline capacity additions. However, there should be some lag before vol rise for the grp and mgt is hoping for this to materialize frm 2H11. Asia Pacific, China, and India are expected to be the fastest growing regions for the aviation sector.

fall from high of 240+ to current price and with dividend of more than 10 cents, no reason not to go up for this defensive stock..anyways, revenue and profit has been improving........it areospace sector will do well soon..(not sure why SIAEngg share price can go so high)......with land, marine and electronics all doing well...
ST Engineering rebounded strongly on it's last trading day. currently suuported by it's short term moving averages, ST Engineering faces immediate resistence at 3.30. Those in profit could consider taking some profit as 3.30 seems to be a storng resistence. Just my thoughts.

The whole market is rather precarious at the moment ...with broad-based falls...
Under present circumstances, it is best to stay aside...
Do not be 'gian-gian' to  'buy-cheap-cheap-and-hold-long-long''
because you can never tell how long is 'long-long'.
But betting for excitement sake okay...

ST Engineering triggered a bearish candlestick pattern (one black crow) which could signify that this counter could be poised to drop lower.

Really depends on your planned entry and exit.. Based on the ranging example I mentioned, the capital yield  will translate to ....

I prefer to use yield indicator to time enter this one....eg. Is the current price translate to 5% or more yield?

5.4% Increase in Singaporean Defense Budget
SINGAPORE - Singapore, which has one of Asia's best-equipped militaries, has raised its national defense budget by 5.4 percent this year, according to government data released Feb. 18.
The government plans to spend S$12.08 billion ($9.5 billion) on defense in the 2011 fiscal year, up from S$11.46 billion the year before.
Singapore's navy, army and air force will get S$11.53 billion to buy and maintain military equipment, for the upkeep of camps and for payment of salaries.
The city-state currently has a population of more than 5 million, a quarter of whom are foreigners.
Singapore's economy grew 14.5 percent in 2010, the fastest in Asia. The defense budget is about 5 percent of gross domestic product.
ST Engineering unit gets $76.5m contract from Inmarsat
  FYI

At which period are you looking at that implies its bearish?
I'll tell you what I am seeing. I see the stock ranging from late NOV 2009 till now, so there are many periods in which its bearish. Even in the 52 weeks period, its still ranging.  If you are looking at the larger long term picture say  from AUG 2009,  you will think its its overbouught and the equity cannot go any higher since its at the 90 percentile currently. Perhaps you may wanna consider playing the range and use a stoch indicator (with your preferred period) to help you time your entry and exit  for this equity and just be aware that at the longer term, the equity MAY do itself a favor by correcting itself. The Fibonacci Retracement will help with the correction.
i don't understand WHY. whenever I view STENG, it implied a very BEARISH look even after recent price surge and marine contract wins. Think most jobs were government projects linked... Can keep becos of its defensiveness and dividends play

Phillip Securities Research in a Feb 16 research report says: " Revenue increased by 7.9% to $5.98 billion and would have been c.$30 million higher if adjusted to account for unfavorable forex (weakening of the € and US$). There is a significant change to the depreciation policy for the Group that contributed to a 9.8% increase in gross profit. " Consequently, PATMI surged 10.6% to $491 million. Dividends of 11.55 cents (final: 4.00+ special: 7.55) will be proposed by the management. STE typically provides guidance for up to 12 months in advance. The company expects to deliver $3.7 billion of their $11.5 billion order book in FY2011 and guidance provided demonstrated management optimism for FY2011. " Target price of $3.80 and expect a total return of 25.5%, after incorporating dividend forecasts of 14.9 cents. MAINTAIN BUY." |
ST Engg rallied quite a bit yesterday. technical charts show signs of weakening so profit taking could be expected in this counter. short term MA is also pointing down. if in profitable position, can consider taking some profit. my personal thoughts.
