Thanx Mani Smiley for the advise. I'll start reading up on TA also and complement it with FA. In stock investing context, knowledge is literally like money.

A "term" can be any length of time....

The point is one must determine at what point one desires to exit the market ...
rather than holding indefinitely, as long-term investors are apt to do.... Smiley

To be an effective "term investor/trader", one needs to practise a systematic method...

This is usually accomplished by means of TA tools... mainly trendlines, support/resistance lines,
plus a host of other TA tools... eg. continuation patterns.

Thus a knowledge of TA is required, and this can be learned with some personal effort.

Using a 'limited knowledge of FA' is definitely not a systematic method,
though money could be made that way too.....Smiley

Please advise me if i fit into the profile of "term investor" or "short term" based on my own technique below.

Currently, i'm using very limited FA knowledge that i have to buy stocks that I'm interested in (usually price not at peak). But i'm holding onto them only for a few months or up to a year before selling (after price has risen by at least 20%). I don't know hw to apply TA at the moment. ==> Using FA skills but not holding onto counter for too long. Reason for doing that is to roll my limited cash for capital gains at this moment to build up larger capital. Thanks.

Livermore... :)

You are a long-term investor...

But there are many "term investors"... who are neither short term nor long-term investors...

As long as their shares keep going up, they will ride it all the way up regardless of duration.

But many of these "term investors" are also technical analyst who are also quick to exit when the
going appears precarious or uncertain... they are defensive players, you see...

Whereas long term investors are voluntarily willing to hold on "forever"... through thick and thin..., which includes the lengthy roller-coaster rides which the term investors are so afraid of.

Hi all

Something which i like to explain,

1.I agree with what smaxmike said that Ray did call on China Farm on Thursday not Friday,in fact he even warned us that this counter needs to tighten out stop-loss price.

2.I happen to saw it on Friday morning so i post it.....on Friday morning and becoz it already Friday i did not put a buy or sell call, just want sj members to note this counter.

3.I think i need to apologise to whoever lost $$$ when they short this counter and to Ray n whoever is not happy about it.......Very sincerly i said sorry.....

4.Finally i make sure i will not post again from today onwards as i feel that i may coz members n friends to lose money........Sorry its all my fault n not Ray..........

Hi Livermore,

You've been telling me this very often. My style is very different from yours. As long as we both make money, it doesn't matter right? Smiley

hi simplesimon, you are right that ROE = Return on Equity. Formula = Net Income / Shareholder's Equity. ROE is a measure of a corporations's profitability. If you see the formula above, you can determine that ROE is how much profits a company can generate out from money invested by shareholders. I think you will come across a lot of other terms like turnover rate, price-earning ration and so on.. I advise you to go this website www.investopedia.com for all your future queries. This website is recommended by a lot of people here as it "acts" like a search engine.. so any queries one just need to key in and searched and voila.. have a nice day.

Elf, hugs to you too. My daughter and family ( total of 5) arrived at 11.55 p.m.last night . I had to suffer the jet lag with them. They have been out for breakfast of lontong ( with bagadel, serundeng).. chwee kway, mee pok, mee tng and chai tau kway. Lunch time was hainanese chicken rice, muah chee, chendol, and  cheng tng. Planning for mee rebus,  mee siam and a whole list of food tomorrow. Greedy, greedy, greedy eh?  They are all asleep now at 5p.m. That is why I managed to read the posts. The two boys were fighting over the matresses and where to sleep. The girl is quiet and easy to manage. Huh, will be very busy the whole month.
