SINGAPORE, May 23 (Reuters) - Shares of Singapore-listed Chinese shipbuilder COSCO fell as much as 3.5 percent on Monday after a news report said some irregularities were found in the 2009 financial statements of 17 Chinese state-owned enterprises. China's National Audit Office audited the financial statements of 17 SOEs, including COSCO's Chinese parent, and found several irregularities and disciplinary violations, Xinhua news agency said in a report dated late Friday. Xinhua said disciplinary actions have been taken.
At 0325 GMT, shares of COSCO were traded at S$1.96 with over 11.6 million shares changing hands. " This could likely be the spark for the selldown in COSCO today, although the details from the news report are not too clear as yet," said a local trader.
COSCO said it could not immediately comment on the Xinhua
