in simpler terms...when it comes to "shorting", you will want a particular stock to go down.. example you short at $1, when it goes down to $0.98, you will have profited $0.02 if u buyback by then...
"Long" means the normal way of buying up...hoping the stock will go up... vice versa of "shorting"
Long means you buy a stock in anticipation of selling it at a HIGHER price for some profit at a later time.
Short means you sell a stock (even if you do not own any of the stock beforehand) with the aim of buying it back at a lower price, and thereby profiting from the price difference.
Do note that shorting is a highly risky affair in the Singapore stock market - one has to buy back the shorted stock within the same day or SGX imposes penalties on the short seller.

SGX cannot short liao, very strong buy up. The horse siao liao, cannot pull back one. This morning I shorted 2 lots but I sensed selling was weak although it went down after I shorted. Then I pull out and cover with little profit and add on contra position, and added more just before lunch...geee, I made from SGX today both direction...hehehe!!! I think SGX is rebounding now from low of 6.3+. So those who wish to short just be cautious. This one siao liao! LONG got better chance!
Yes, I contra 5 lots of SGX avg. $6.66. Made some kopi $$. SPC-disappointment lah! Will leave it open overnight and see how lah. SYNEAR, yes coming back very strong. Usually when fund house call sell, we buy. I have yet take any position on SYNEAR yet, sideline and see. I contra China Energy at 29¢ and came out 32¢..%%^&*, now 37¢

Nicky...yes I shorted SGX in the morning, then covered up 1 hour later plus add on to LONG SGX. i guess this burger is heading for $7.00 soon, might happen today, but so far not happening yet leh! About GOLD, sad lah! I let go at a loss @US$92+. But now see it's price, more or less heng lah! Today, LONG day for me leh... LONG SPC also @6.52. See got kopi $$ today or not! Cheers!
