Aiyo.... the term Gu Piao Da Jie Jie makes me sound like an aunty... which I am not.... yikes...
i love fruits too !
my belief is that all edible fruits, being natural creations and eaten mostly in its rqw form, will have all the goodness intended naturally as opposed to cooked/manufactured/processed foods , even juices
each fruit has its merits and i think it is unnecessary to distinguish which is superior to the other ... what is lacking in one will be compensated by another .. expensive fruits are not necessarily superior to cheaper humble ones ...
of course, like all things , everyone will have their favourites ...
sometimes I wonder why people buy bottles of vitamin and mineral tablets when they can have both their fibre and vitamin/mineral needs by just eating the cheap and tasty fruits available
so my take is : take a holistic approach ..love to eat all sorts of fruits ..and reap the goodness intented by nature !
(sorry if it sounds cheem ..open to constructive and well meant inputs as always ..hahaha !)
baseerahmed knows Chinese classic/literature works.. we have once debated over Water Margin..(shui3 wu3) he's well versed. So, your guess of his background?
dear Ms Fruitty... the badge.. how does it look.... hmm, I will let Elfinchilde present it to you when she is around and you will see.... but for now, I think like all things elfie, there is a green connotation..
yes what is your favourite fruit?
Hi Mani, now we have something in common.... I love mangosteen too... it has the highest anti oxidant (re anti cancer) qualities and I find it the most refreshing, excellent for removing heatiness etc.. etc.. you know in the US, someone extract the juice and is selling a bottle of it for US37.50.
On-going research continues to find valuable properties and several active phytochemicals have already been identified in the Mangosteen fruit, including:
- 39 different xanthones ? These powerful phytonutrients demonstrate unique and valuable health properties.
- catechins ? The mangosteen rind has been shown to have the same level of this active ingredient as found in green tea.
- proanthocyanidins ? The same benefit touted in grapeseed extract, proanthocyanidins are found in efficacious amounts in the whole mangosteen fruit.
Dozens of studies demonstrate the incredibly beneficial properties of the mangosteen fruit. Among the most important benefits:
Sustains a healthy cardiovascular system*
- The cardiovascular system (or circulatory system) includes the heart, the blood and blood vessels. The importance of maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system cannot be overstated. Because of poor diet and nutrition heart conditions are the number one cause of death and disability in the United States and most European countries.
Supports cartilage and joint function*
- Cartilage is a dense connective tissue found in the joints, the rib cage, the ear and the nose. The knee joint, one of the most complex in the body, is more likely to be injured than is any other joint.
Strengthens the immune system*
- Inflammation is one of the first responses of the immune system to infection. Symptoms will usually include a redness or swelling, both caused by an increase in blood flow.
Promotes a healthy seasonal respiratory system*
- The respiratory tract is a common site for infections. Upper respiratory tract infections are one of the most common infections in the world, accounting for one billion illnesses in the United States annually.
Maintains intestinal health*
- The gastrointestinal tract?consisting of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach and small and large intestines?is a prominent part of the immune system. Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the intestines and is the most common disease of the intestines.
Neutralizes free radicals*
- Large molecules with powerful antioxidant properties, like xanthones, may stabilize free radicals. Left uncontrolled, free radicals can damage cells, tissue or DNA.
Hi Fruity... :)
How about telling us about your favourite fruits...
eg. mangesteens?, pomegrenates?, grapefruit? kiwi fruit, mango? etc, etc...
Then others can discuss them here...
My favourite fruit is the mangosteen.
It is a rather unusual fruit in that though it's shell is so thick and hard, yet one can so easily open it up by pressing with both palms. This is very unlike other hard-shelled fruits like the durian or coconut which needs special skills and/or tools for humans to get at the goodie.
