Singapore’s Straits Times Index gained 0.4% to 3,142.62 at the close. The gauge fell 1% this week, trimming the month’s advance to 1.5%. Two stocks rose for each that declined on the 30-member gauge.

Shares on the measure trade at an average 15.3 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.4 times at the beginning of the year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The following shares were among the most active in the market. 

 

Eu Yan Sang International (EYSAN SP), a retailer of traditional Chinese medicine, advanced 1.7% to 91 cents. The company said first-quarter profit increased 14% to $4.1 million.

 

Genting Singapore Plc (GENS SP), owner of one of two casino resorts in the city-state, gained 0.5% to $2.17. RHB Capital Bhd raised its share-price forecast to $2.55 from $2.40 and maintained its “outperform” rating.

 

Indofood Agri Resources (IFAR SP), the palm-oil unit of Indonesia’s biggest noodle maker, fell 1.9% to $2.60. The company said third-quarter net income fell 8.7% from a year earlier to 360 billion rupiah ($52.4 million).

 

Jardine Cycle & Carriage (JCNC SP), the automotive distributor that gets 89% of sales from Indonesia, rose 0.4% to $39.30. Its unit PT Astra International (ASII IJ), Indonesia’s biggest automotive retailer, posted a 37% jump in third-quarter net income to 3.92 trillion rupiah.

 

Stats Chippac (STAT SP), the chip-testing and packaging company controlled by Temasek Holdings, declined 3.6% to 95 cents. The company said third- quarter profit fell to US$24.2 million ($31.4 million) from US$25.1 million a year earlier even as revenue increased 10.9%.

CapitaLand (CATL.SI), Southeast Asia’s biggest property developer, reported a 43% fall in its third-quarter net profit on Friday — missing forecasts — due to lower rental from shopping malls.

CapitaLand, 39% owned by Singapore state investor Temasek (TEM.UL), earned $159.6 million in pre-exceptional net profit the three month ended September, down from $281.3 million a year ago.

The net profit was lower than $241.5 million average estimate of four analysts polled by Reuters.

 

"Revenue in the third quarter was lower due to a decrease in progressive revenue recognition from residential projects in Singapore and China as well as lower rental from our shopping malls," the company said in a statement.

 

CapitaLand shares have declined by 7.4% so far this year, underperforming the broader Singapore index <.FTSTI> which gained 8.5%.
