Not all who happen to be in a particular belief system are intellectually 'dishonest'...

The circumstances making one belong to a particular belief system can be many and varied.
Many may have no choice but to 'play along', perhaps out of duty, love, or other reasons.

Such people are to be loved rather than critcised... Smiley

Dear SF, (ps I have abbreviated your nick, cos I feel odd calling by it)... I think there is always another day... but SPC is actually now 6.45 and suspect would close as such... but I think it is still undervalued...

oh yes Skeleton... would it be nice.. but actually something like that happen to Occulus recently...

ok Mani.. I have of cos my views, and from my perspective again you are looking things with colored vision & preconcieved ( and still captivated )  ideas.  However,  I really think that this is not the place for such discussions .. so lets move on to other subjects.....Smiley  Meanwhile if you truely want to know more I would be very glad to talk for hours if you need to discuss such things further.. and drinks would be on me... but in the meanwhile briefly surely for ppl who accept the Bible teachings (for example Mother Theresa) you cannot say they are "being dishonest"?

Many have seen a sudden drop of prices which triggers off panic selling a couple of days back....for a change, i hope to see a sudden surge in prices across the board and wonder if there were to be 'panic buying' ? Smiley

Won't it be great too...but not for those shorters.

Cheers

Is there any written reference describing the climate in that garden?

The questions that will still hounds me, if I were to believe things the way you do, is:

Wouldn't men and women  be able to think for themselves  even if they hadn't eaten that dreadful fruit? Since humans are thinkers, wouldn't the 'concept of nudity' as you put it, be an issue too?  What about those nudist colonies in some countries?

Thus, the more I believe things, the more groggy I become, and I may soon end up a utterly dishonest person if I believe too much. This (being dishonest) is too much for me. Seeking to  simply understand rationally is my cup of tea... Smiley

ok Mani... Smiley 163 I guess we got that sorted out for the moment..... happy trading in the meanwhile..the stock are recovering.. and my SPC shares are going up and I think there is still more upside for another 10%..  what stocks are you vested?

btw, re your joke about the fig leaf and Adam & Eve.. I think you are rite that is possible that they may be naked...  but then in the Garden of Eden, the climate then is perfect (so no need for clothing) and besides the concept of nakedness as shameful was never there...

Choo Hian, this is not the big fig.  Smaller ones.  They grow from the stem or trunk, but the leaves is much smaller compared to the type you are referring to.  Those big leaves can be for wrapping Chai Tao Kuah many years ago too, giving it a beautiful aroma.

It's the car park between the church or bible  something and the museum, and opp the coffee shop. There will be an access road by the side of this car park to go up to the bigger carpark.  It's the slope between these 2 car parks.

Please, please don't apologise for anything... you've done nothing wrong...
Just wanting to "correct my flawed thinking", or 'nailing me' for it, and prove me wrong is not a sin...

Not to worry... (I was not hostile to you, but simply stated my views)...
Those are just your views at this time in your life...  Smiley

dear Mani.. I am sorry if I come across as trying to "nail" you..  I was just trying to sort your thinking which I believe is flawed... btw, I completely agree with your comment that "one needs to be an honest person in the heart" to really search and find the meaning of life..

and since you say that you are refering to "spiritual broadly", what then is your definition of word spiritual? As for me, spirit is a fact, a thing (unseen but real) and not a mystical system of thought....and coming from your way of thinking can you pls elaborate than as to what is "spiritual living" ?

hahaha...

If Adam had used the fig leaf, wouldn't Eve had quickly grabbed one for herself too?

And if those two had obeyed the divine order not to eat that stupid fruit, wouldn't their descendants and us today be nudists in the world, without any need to cover up?

Just speculating... hehehe... Smiley

"I said... I am very much into spiritual living as a person... "... I must clarify that I used the term "spiritual" broadly to refer to the overall psychological and cultural qualities of a person, rather than one with an unwavering belief in any mystical system of thought..

It appears to me you need to really 'nail me' or prove me wrong, or 'put me in my place' for my statements.

Ideally, a credible person, and thus a truly 'spiritual' person, is not one who can demolish another person's views by clever arguments alone. One needs also to be an honest person in the heart. One must give due regard to the bigger world we live in, where a truly wide spectrum of views and belief systems exist. This cannot be changed. We can just accept it as fact like the Tao suggests on reality.

I wasn't changing the subject... "James Randi" (google) is one person whom I respect for his utter rationality.  Smiley

dear Choo Hian, thanks for pointing out... I think I shall go and look at your tree then...

Oh, your hubby also a Rafflesian? and 1949 batch graduation puts him now75? and the school location at that time was at current Raffles City.. and the school principal is Buckley? btw I tried to trace it in google but apparently nobody have posted such topics.. Former school principal, Jesudason did a wikipedia write up but there are gaps particulalr of the history before his time..perhaps your hubby should fill in some of the missing gaps that he knows...

dear Mani.. I guess you want to change the subject so I shall let it go... I have already stated before that I can understand you want to stay in what you want to believe and of cos even God cannot change that becos he has given all of us a free will.

I was just pointing out that I totally diagree with you when you state:

a)  "On the question of believing in things, if something is one's chosen belief, then one must not question further to 'know the truth'...Because the very nature of belief itself forbids further questioning..."

and  when you say

 b) "I am very much into living the ideas of  Buddhism and the Tao itself, especially the latter, since its principles are universally applicable and thus everlastingare you not making an assumption and holding a belief  and yet you are still asking questions?

and is this i.e statement (a)  consistent with your statement and I quote  "Though I am not a believer in an external 'supreme living person' out there, I  am very much into spiritual  living as a person, as opposed to unquestioning belief in any propounded ideas." ?Yoda
