STI +0.7% midday; fund flow anticipation

STI +0.7% at 3230.83 midday, breaching previous 3220 peak to reach highest point since May 2008 as investors expect Singapore to benefit from increased money flows into Asia with U.S Fed likely poised to turn on liquidity taps.

“There have been a lot of reports that seem quite certain the Fed is going to print half a trillion dollars, that is quite a big sum...that’s why funds are buying our market in anticipation of tonight's announcement...the more money is pumped in, the more will leak out,” says Goh Mou Lih, research head at Asiasons WFG.

Adds, HK market +1.7%, also following same trend. Freight Links (F01.SG) top-traded, +12.5% at $0.09; firm announced mid-October sale, leaseback of properties to Sabana — with S$99.4 million net proceeds--which last week got in-principle approval from MAS for REIT management license. 1.17 billion shares traded, gainers beat decliners 2.3 to 1. Next hurdle tipped at 3267.

STI last +0.5% at 3220.26, after rising to new 29-month highs, following Wall Street’s rise, gains across region; sentiment towards equities buoyed by expectations U.S. mid-term elections to show swing to Republicans, while Fed about to return to printing press, which should see more liquidity flow into Asian markets; also, domestic corporate earnings “so far seem to suggest the economy, while globally may be still mixed, might be in slightly better shape than expected, so that’s why I think we’re on the optimistic side while we await these (U.S. events),” says CIMB economist Song Seng Wun.

Market breadth positive with 2.7 gainers for every decliner; volume tad up on yesterday with 316 million shares traded worth $387 million. SIA Engineering (S59.SG) top percentage gainer in STI, +2.3% at $4.52, despite guiding for moderation in 2H earnings. Index trading around 3220 October peak, once that's firmly taken out, May 2008 peak at 3267 may cap.

Indofood Agri-Resources downgraded to 'hold' by UOB Kay Hian

WRITTEN BY THE EDGE
WEDNESDAY, 03 NOVEMBER 2010 11:45
smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon

UOB Kay Hian in a Nov 1 research report says: "Indofood Agri Resources’ (IFAR) core net profit declined 20% y-o-y to Rp774 billion in 9M10.

"This was mainly attributable to: (a) lower total sales by 3.8% y-o-y, (b) lower forex gain from Rp250.9 billion in 9M09 to Rp65.4 billion in 9M10 and (c) higher operating expenses. Quarterly net profit increased 26% q-o-q on higher crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernal average selling prices (ASP). Revenue declined 1.8% y-o-y on lower sales volume.

"We lower our earnings forecasts by 18.5% to Rp1,109 billion for 2010 and by 13.0% to Rp1,478 billion for 2011 to factor in lower cooking oil price assumption as well as sales volume due to stiff competition in the domestic cooking oil market. Fair price of $2.65 as we lowered our PE valuation to 13x 2012F PE. DOWNGRADE TO HOLD."

OCBC Investment Research in a Nov 1 research report says: "Venture Corp (VMS) reports its 3Q10 results, with revenue slipping 26.9% y-o-y to $677.9 million, or about 1.9% above our forecast, as it continues to revamp its Printing & Imaging (P&I) business.

"Net profit, though, jumped 27.2% y-o-y to $48.6 million, almost spot on our $48.0 million estimate, aided by the group's ongoing transformation from an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) to an ODM (original design manufacturer) business model. For 9M10, revenue fell 21.2% to $1970.4 million, meeting 71.1% of our full-year forecast, while net profit climbed 5.5% to $133.9 million, almost meeting around 71.3% of our FY2010 estimate.

"We remain encouraged by the group's business transformation into an ODM player, which we believe should herald a new era for the group. Fair value of $10.73 (still based on an undemanding 15x blended FY10/FY11F EPS). MAINTAIN BUY."

Longcheer Holdings rated 'buy' by DBS

WRITTEN BY THE EDGE

smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon

DBS Vickers Securities in a Nov 1 research report says: "1Q11 in line, with net profit up 30% y-o-y to RMB39 million on the back of 25% growth in sales to RMB1119 million. Longcheer would have clocked higher sales if not for component shortages in the quarter.

"Domestic sales were steady but exports did well, doubling to 46% of group sales as exports to India grew and Longcheer started to ship its first 2G handsets to Latin America. Longcheer has also begun to ship 100k units of 3G phones to China. Gross margin was 9.74%, lower than 10.6% in 1Q10 but an improvement from 9.4% in 4Q10.

"At 7.6x FY11 PE and 1.7x P/NTA, Longcheer is at a huge discount to peers average of 12x PE. Excluding net cash of 18 cents per share this quarter, the stock is even cheaper at 6x FY2011 and offers close to 5% yield. MAINTAIN BUY."

CDL Hospitality Trust upgraded to 'buy' by Phillip Securities

Tags: CDL Hospitality Trust | Phillip Securities Research

WRITTEN BY THE EDGE
WEDNESDAY, 03 NOVEMBER 2010 11:39
smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon

Phillip Securities Research in a Nov 1 research report says: "CDL HT recorded 3Q10 revenue of $31.6 million (+38.4% y-o-y), net property income of $30.2 million (+40.9% y-o-y) and distributable income of $26.9 million (+44.6% y-o-y). $2.7 million was retained for the quarter and DPU was 2.57 cents (+24.5% y-o-y).

"CDL HT has total debt of $379.1 million and gearing is 21.1%. We think 4Q10 results will be buoyed by the year-end holiday season. We think main risk to the sector could be the strong Sing$ which would discourage holiday makers making merry in Singapore. Nonetheless, we still like the tourism-play story.

"Furthermore CDL HT has a comfortable gearing which put it in a position to embark on opportunistic buys. We are rolling forward our valuation to FY2011E and based on a DDM valuation model, we derived a target price of $2.38.  UPGRADE TO BUY."

Nomura reaffirms Straits Asia at Buy; laggard play

smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon
Nomura reaffirms Straits Asia Resources (AJ1.SG) at Buy with $2.80 target price after 3Q profit after tax at US$23 million, topping house's estimate by 10%, mostly on lower tax rate (31%).

Tips around US$80 million ($103.1 million)PAT for FY10; says stock attractively valued, laggard play, has underperformed peers by 30% year-to-date; notes strong volumes at Jembayan mine, while costs, tax have come down.

Expects delay in Northern Leases mine permit, but says any positive surprise there would substantially impact FY11 forecasts, as expects mine to be high margin production; expects volume uptick from further reserve upgrades at Jembayan, Northern Leases while M&A would still be key catalyst; “even if there is no acquisition, with a 60% dividend payout ratio, we estimate its dividend yield will be 5% in FY11F and 7% in FY12F - much higher than regional peers.”

Shares off 0.4% at $2.31.

DBSV keeps SATS at Buy; 2H outlook bright

smaller text tool iconmedium text tool iconlarger text tool icon
DBS Vickers keeps SATS (S58.SG) at Buy with $3.13 target price; says 2Q results within expectations, with net profit +10.5% on year at $45.2 million on revenue +11% at $401.2 million.

Notes EBIT off 4%, EBIT margin down 1.6 ppt on year, due to higher raw materials cost as food prices up due to poorer harvest, natural disasters; this mitigated by stronger Associates/JV contribution of $15.9 million (+51% on year).

Outlook positive; notes “we are expecting a seasonally stronger 2H on further pick-up in activities on increased air travel, airlines yields/load factor improvement, as well as better contribution from SATS’s Daniel's food business.

However, rising food prices could be a dampener on our earnings estimates” though effects will be minimised through SATS's diversified supply base.

Stock last down 1.0% at $2.86.
