There are 2 schools of thoughts. One on right side and the other on  left.

NOL: Deutsche maintains Sell with $1.66 TP. Note of cautious view on container shipping industry and expect a material decline in earnings this yr. Tip 2Q results are likely to be worse than 1Q because of soft rates and higher costs. At 1.1x 2011E P/B, valuations look unattractive.

This company is not earning money right? Every quarter loses money: expensive oil, low freight rate.

Wilmar: IIFL maintains Sell with $4.57 TP. Tip that share price’s post-results rally was misguided, as over 1/3 of its reported 1QFY11 earnings (US$387m) was a forex gain. Also have doubts over its reality-defying 1Q China crushing margin of US$55 per ton, which was the 2nd highest in its history, 4x China’s average, and higher than its western peers who sell to freer markets……

Add that the hostile environment – stubbornly high soybean prices combined with continuing price intervention of the inflation-obsessed Chinese govt, will likely persist in 2011. House maintains FY11 core earnings forecast of US$1.3b.

nol trend reversal? possible?
a higher low was formed 2 days back at 1.84
followed by 2 green candles stopping at 1.88
first to break 1.88 resistance turn support line
next hurdle to break 1.95 for a higher high technical trend reversal

previously nol pierce through 1.88 which coincidentally is
both a horizontal as well as downtrend sloping support line
stopping short of breaking previous high 1.95

a throwback to the downward sloping line followed with 2 up candles
macd & rsi turning upward & stochk completed the cross
a throwback is an upside breakout that returns prices to
the top of the trend line boundary

color & shape of next candle(s) would determine taking up long position

On Thursday, NOL re-test the resistance at $1.88 and closed at $1.86 with LOW volume of 9.89 million shares traded.

Separating lines occurred. If the lines occur during an uptrend and the first line is black and the second is white then this suggests that the uptrend should continue.

RSI & MACD are flat as MACD lines converge together.

Important Resistance of NOL: $1.88

Immediate Support of NOL: $1.81

Currently prices are resisted by 20 days MA at $1.88

Nomura says its earnings expectations, target price for NOL has 'downward bias'

Nomura International, in a report, said it was disappointed with NOL's 1Q11 US$10 mn net loss as it had expected marginal profit.

While logistic remains stable, container reported US$8 mn operating loss (due to higher costs, especially bunker oil prices).

However, as NOL share price has corrected from its year-to-date high, Nomura analysts Andrew Lee and Cecilia Chan said they believed the disappointing result is in the price.

" More importantly, we estimate the container recovery is in sight from 2H11 onwards driven by peak season and tighter supply, enabling carriers to push through rate increases and collect higher bunker surcharges."

It added there is a " downward bias" to its earnings expectations and price target for NOL. Currently, its price target and rating are S$2.60 and BUY, respectively.

NOL: Announced JV to operate 2-berth container terminal at Qingdao Port. The terminal will be open in 2H11 and is NOL’s first in China. NOL will contribute approx US$25.8m to the JV which has a 30 yr concession…

Co together with partners SITC Intl (a PRC shipping logistics co) and Qingdao Qianwan United will jointly operate the Qingdao terminal which will add 1.5m TEUs of annual capacity at Qingdao. The terminal will primarily serve SITC and NOL’s liner shipping co APL.

* EU visited NOL's office in UK

* NOL says believes in full compliance of regulation

* EU Commission says shipping firms may have violated antitrust rules

* EU investigating possible abuse of market position (Adds background, company statement) By Harry Suhartono

SINGAPORE, May 18 (Reuters) - Singapore's Neptune Orient Lines said representatives from the European Union have visited its office in the United Kingdom to investigate possible infringement of anti-competition rules in the shipping sector. European Union regulators on Tuesday raided several liner shipping companies, including Danish group A.P. Moller-Maersk , France's CMA CGM and Germany's Hapag-Lloyd [HPLG.UL], on suspicion of price fixing, the European Commission and those companies said. The Commission, which can fine companies up to 10 percent of their global revenues for breaching EU rules, did not identify the companies raided.

" NOL understands that the intent of the inspection is to identify the existence of any evidence of infringement of anti-competition rules relating to the liner shipping industry," the company said in a statement. NOL, around two-third owned by Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL], also said it believes that it is in " compliance with the anti-competition regulations and is cooperating fully with the European Union." NOL shares were down 0.5 percent at S$1.85 at 0220 GMT, undperforming the broader Singapore market < .FTSTI> , which was up 0.2 percent. < ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EU watchdogs raid container shipping firms

[ID:nLDE73Q0IY] NOL posts Q1 loss despite revenue growth [ID:nL3E7GD1ON] ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^> A.P. Moller-Maersk, which owns the world's biggest container shipping company Maersk Line, said on Tuesday it was raided but its practices were in compliance with EU competition law and it would cooperate fully with the Commission in the investigation. The Commission's probe covers the period from late 2008, when liner shipping conferences were banned, to the present, Maersk's spokesman Michael Storgaard said. Liner shipping was earlier organised in groups called " liner conferences" , which met to discuss market conditions, freight rates and other common concerns under a block exemption from European competition rules. But the European Union decided in 2006 to ban the practice as against competition rules and the ban took effect in 2008.

The EU last year ruled that several airlines including Singapore Airlines' cargo unit were involved in price fixing. [ID:nSGE6A80RW] Global container shipping firms have been squeezed by a sharp fall in rates, driven by over-capacity and limited demand, since the start of the year and rising fuel charges. However the sector is expected to rebound later this year.

NOL: Confirms report that EU Commission officials had visited its UK office. AP Moller-Maersk, CMA, Hapag-Lloyd were among liner shipping Co’s raised by EU's antitrust officials over possible collusion, with the regulators highlighting they have reasons to believe the Co’s may have breached EU cartel or monopoly-abuse rules. NOL maintains it is in compliance with Europe Anticompetition regulation, and will fully cooperate in investigations. Technically, see support at $1.80 (2011 yr low)
