shplayer...regarding diet/health: sigh. used to it already lah. have never had regular meal times and sleep times anw.

i like kaya roti and eggs too! and haha. sama sama: i dip the kaya bread into the eggs +soya sauce too! :P

yakun is nice. dun get to go there often tho. if you like your kaya bread real crispy and thin with thick butter and kaya (the brown bread), go to this corner coffee shop at ann siang hill; the guy's called ah wee. very good. :)))) and haha, sometimes he even has stock tips. o_0 advise to just eat the bread and drink the kopi. :P

yah. nonya food at malacca. either bibik neo, or that other place...i can't rem the name offhand. their buah keluak is unstuffed tho; just the raw ones; good if you like it bitter. chinchalok eggs! yumyum. oh, and the sambal udang petai too. :))))) or luak! my favourite!

working up an appetite. hehe.

cks, i was thinking of going for a jeep tour in Si-Chuan / Tibet mountain area, I saw many nice photos, was told best time is July when this mountain areas are considered as spring time, cool weather, flowers, lake, etc. Have u been to SiChuan/Tibet?

Shplayer, wow I must try that at 39 Semb-hill .. to compare with the 50 cents kopi-O I used to take.

by the way, just nearby, behind that Mobil station, there is a shop selling breads, freshly baked, start business around 7.30pm ( close on Friday), each bread costs 50 cents . A lot of customers around 7.30pm tp 10pm. Shop is run by several happy people. really worth a try. In fact I just brought some breads tonite for tomorrow's breakfast..

Singaporegal, I like old style kopi-o plus eggs, haha, same way of eating. I like Yakun too. I dont mind Starbuck too.

Astersik,

I don't think you can get TESCO house brand @ NTUC.

I got mine from TESCO in Malacca.......I go there 2-4 times a year to get my fix of the food there.....yummy malay satay (traditional style), nonya food, putu piring to die for, the best tandoori chicken and naan at malaysian coffee shop price (meal for 4 pax costs about Rm50 with drinks - lasi, bandung, teh tarek)....this tandoori is better than any expensive indian restuarant I have tried.in Spore; then you have the sinful orr chien, etc etc.

Anyway....back to the coffee.....whenever I am there, I will buy a few packs to bring home.

If you cant get it here, try the coffee/drinks stall 39 @ Sembawang hills Food Center.....best coffee I've had at coffee shops and hawker centers so far.

Oh, yes, singaporegal, I like them with 2 half boild eggs and kaya toasted bun for breakfast. I slurp down the eggs (without breaking the yolk) from a saucer after drizzling it with black soy and pepper. SLURRRP!!!

Hi Asterisk,

You got a really hip grand-dad ..... I find the coffee at Coffee Bean and Starbucks a little too overdone, know what I mean? Nothing beats the kopi at the local coffeeshop or the ones at Ya Kun. Throw in a couple of eggs and Kaya toast and I'm deliriously happy.

hi elfinchilde..thanks for encouragements re icons.. stay well... yes I think it would be good idea to guide our wandering bunny (you heard THAAATTT!!! Bunnie..).. let her know that so long as she can get connected to internet, (and to SJ Fellowship)  she would be fine... there would be someone "on watch" .... to give her directions... this uncle could volunteer (it would be fun actually) to fetch her if she really runs into problems...

dear Bunnie... alternatively you can also take bus...apparently from GZ nowadays There are many sleeper buse from Guangzhuo to Guilin and it is easy to buy tickets and  can catch bus to Guilin at the same day.

And if you going to Guilin, you got to go to Yangshuo. (the scenery is better there)

If you can't get the train, walk west of the train station underground to the E exit, then right at the back of the stairwell is the bus station to Yangshuo. Buses go quite frequently and it's faster and cheaper than the train. Another netter recommends "go out of the train station and turn left on the main road and walk the 300m to bus station. for 3 extra kuai the ride is much much better"

hey bunnie, if you are just bumming around... get away from GZ... take train -  go west to Guilin (Guangxi) or Lijiang (Yunnan)... of cos can also take plane.. but I guess you got time and not much money....

Guangzhou - Kunming (train K364, dep 1430 arr 1538 next day) and then from Kunming you must take a night bus to Lijiang. It's nine hours and  but you have toy watch you stuff on the bus.  In Lijiang.  And some body posted this "do yourself a favor and do Tiger Leaping Gorge before they dam it up. It was the highlight of my 5 weeks in China. Truly breathtaking. Catch a two hour bus to Qaotou (Chao toe), head to Margot's guesthouse, and start walking. Pretty easy hike. Two days, one night no problem. Stay at half way guesthouse the first night, and when you finish the hike in Walnut Garden, stay at SEAN's not Woody's. Great place."

As for Guilin: Main Railway Station in the heart of Guangzhou (taxi cost about Y40). There are 2 trains a day to Guilin:

  • K36 departs at 17.36 from Guangzhou main station arriving at 06.40
  • T38 departs at 21.04 and arrives into Guilin at 10.30.

Let us know choice and I can supply more details...

tiandi/uncle kiasu, i hate gz. coz this was a very last min trip for me to tag along, so me didn't have the time to do research on where to go (and the silly locals i asked they dunno where to recommend too :( ). so far only been to baiyun san (baiyun mountain) and i hate it! it's so bloody hot. in fact, i hate here. ppl are rude, place is really dirty, air is so bloody polluted, weather is hot and humid.

different chinese cities really have different breed of PRCs.
