ya, dc. I think this counter is likely to go down for monday. The upper limit of bollinger band has touched. Moreover, CO price came down so much on Friday.

Straits Asia Has Capacity for $1 Billion Coal Bid (Update1)

By Catherine Yang and Jesse Riseborough

Aug. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Straits Asia Resources Ltd., a supplier of coal to Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, will have the capacity to make an acquisition of more than $1 billion as coal sales rise amid record prices for the fuel.

The company will be making ``substantial cash-flows'' from next year amid higher coal prices, Chief Executive Officer Milan Jerkovic said in an interview with Bloomberg Television from Perth.

Straits reported a threefold gain in first-half profit last week after boosting output as prices rose. There's strong demand for thermal coal, used by power stations, in Europe and Asia and the market will remain under-supplied until at least 2010, according to Merrill Lynch & Co.

``Coal is on the increase and the fundamentals for coal demand and the tightness of supply hasn't changed,'' Jerkovic said. ``We can certainly see higher prices again towards the end of this year.''

Straits Asia fell 1.7 percent to S$2.38 at 12:04 p.m. Singapore time. The stock has dropped 24 percent this year.

Straits Asia buys US$100 mln coal exploration rights

SINGAPORE - Singapore's Straits Asia Resources Ltd will purchase coal exploration rights in Madagascar and Brunei for US$100 million from its controlling shareholder Australian miner Straits Resources Ltd.

Straits Asia, 47-per cent owned by Straits Resources, said in a statement on Friday this included licences in Madagascar with an exploration target of finding 300 million to 500 million tonnes of coal.

'The acquisition of the coal interests in Brunei and Madagascar is an important step in our strategy of becoming a diversified global player. It gives us substantial exploration acreage,' said Straits Asia's CEO Richard Ong.

Straits Resources told Reuters in an interview on Thursday it plans to grow its coal unit through acquisitions, and was targeting deals worth between A$1 billion to A$2 billion (US$877 million to US$1.75 billion) in Australia . -- REUTERS

Straits Asia Resources heads higher as investors bet Vietnam coal port disruption may support coal prices. Goldman Sachs notes recent typhoon damaged Vietnam coal port operations, says may disrupt coal shipments to China, push spot coal prices up. Says, "we believe that the latest supply disruption in the Asia Pacific coal trade is a key positive for ASEAN coal producers who trade in tight correlation to regional spot prices and have high earnings leverage to regional prices." Maintains Buy rating, unchanged $3.95 target price.
