More ships?

remembered in 2008 they placed orders for think 10 ships

but in 2009/10 they asked to defer the orders till market conditions turned favorable.

so are we talking about same ships or they are buying additional ships on top of the 2008 orders?

Despite shipping glut still building $1.5Billion. Rights Issue needed to finance this huge capex.

June 15, 2011, 5.46 pm (Singapore time)

NOL in shipbuilding, upgrade deals worth US$1.54 bln

The 12 new vessels include 10 vessels of 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) to be constructed by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, as well as two 9,200-TEU ships to be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2013 and 2014, the firm said in a statement.

NOL added that it is investing in new, larger vessels to reduce unit capital and operating costs, meet future growth needs as well as replace older and smaller chartered vessels that will be returned to their owners. -- REUTERS

SINGAPORE - Singapore container shipping firm Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) said on Wednesday it had signed letters of intent for 12 new vessels and is also upgrading an order placed last year for 10 ships for a total of US$1.54 billion.

guess temasek is determined to replace the american old guards at apl,

but with so many key positions replaced cant really see who is capable enough to steer the ship now

recall when ron  got promoted during one of the townhall he mentioned that he " intend to stay very long"   - >   guess in reference to that german ceo whom left abruptly at that time.

any comments on experts on how to navigate with this stock? thx

It will be beneficial for all to understand that all

adversarial exchanges between stock players has

surprisingly little to do with the stock market itself.

Contentions arise from the personal bias of individuals

as to the direction of the market/stock.

To 'handle' or play the market well, it is utmostly

important to be unbiased and " lose one's Ego" ,

                                      so to speak.... Smiley

The  advices given  by others are very sound and genuine.

They make enough sense to be understood even by  the inexperienced.

Humulas, your optimism and advice in keep buying (averaging down)  and not selling barely makes sense in this kind of market conditions.

Even billionaires know how to cut loss and enter again later. Not to mention small retail investors like most of us.

Don't get me started with your Super cheat talk. I will faint.

I'm just waiting for another name-calling after this.

Hahaha!!

But I think that is neither bearish talk,

nor bullish talk... it is neutral stock talk.

The hard fact remains that averaging down

a falling stock can indeed wipe many people

out long before the stock recovers to previous levels... Smiley

Alex is right..

Those who have money to play averaging down

usually buy more and more than previous lots

Only in this way can they recoup their losses quicker.

If they buy lesser lots, it will take ages to recover losses... Smiley

Why are you still holding to them now?

Broken so many resistance level since then.

You should have cut your losses when it break below $1.90.

Anyway, you have 2 choices now... Cut your losses and buy back later or average down at lower price.

You should know that right now, nobody knows the bottom. It could be $1.50 could be $1.00 or lower.

As a trader, my first instinct is to cut loss. But you have to make your own decision.

If your plan is to average down, you should prepare to average down at least twice the amount you initial invested. In another word, you have to buy 4 lots or more. No point buying another 2 lots, it'll take forever to recover.
