hello cks, i'm always impress by your knowledge abt wine & liquor.... wish I can travel the world more frequent like old time.... sure you will see 10 bottles of wine inside my suitcase!!

any way me just a small potato can't really afford fine wine...look carefully my choice of Duhart-Milon-Rothschild and Carruades de Lafite is only the Fourth Growths type... so not really that sky high expensive... I was told by this Sommelier those wine are the cheaper version and as close to the First Growths Rothschild or Lafite.

jerome, cool... do let me know if you doing your MO next round.... perhaps we should come out and chill with some wine or Amarula Cream someday? ^^

oh yeah, I'm also looking into investing in fine wine recently.... perhaps just keep it as a hobby for the mean time.

Talking about France, it is interesting to note that Frenchman Claude V. (otherwise known as "Rael") claimed since 1973 that he is the last in a long line messengers in this world.

Can we seriously believe it?... Smiley

hey j3r0m3,

if you ever gonna organize a join mass orders from France, I'm interested on the following bottles:
1. Duhart-Milon-Rothschild
2. Carruades de Lafite

of course I can't take too much for my own collection.... perhaps a few bottle to share with really good friends? ^^

at Long Bar, while entertaining overseas guests... like rituals... Maybe I do not appreciate the drink...  I prefer simple cocktails like Gin and Tonic *boring!*yawn*, Volka Lime *boring!*yawn*... Younger days, I like Long Island Tea.. those with lots of alcohol, not those cheats who fills it with more coke/tea...

hey eastonbay, re singapore sling.. did you have the drink at the Long Bar or when you are travelling on SIA...  it does taste like cough mixture when it is not properly prepared...  and you should not drink it too soon... let the ice melt a bit more...

yes mass orders is the key... I got my lalande that way..  btw if you are doing it do drop me a line at buaykiasu@yahoo.com.sg  kamsia...

back to share market... looks like the worse is over.. some rationality has prevail... the Singapore economy is robust unlike US.. and heck US economy is going to be 2.5% .. they are not going into a recession.. this subprime thing is not new.. and Bernanke is putting things in order he said so a week ago...

petrus is for the special occasion ma...

also wines must keep to age ma, then only will have some value...

wow, 7 yrs liao for your lalande. should be as highly rated as 1982 if the tasting notes do not lie.

The ice wine and riesling that i bought in Germany was from a boutique vineyard, so it was surprisingly not as sweet as i thought it would be. Sweet wines i must buy some la, else how to get the finance minister to approve my other wine purchases.... heeee...

As for bringing wines from Aussieland, ya i do that too, but not by the crates la...
I tend to join mass orders so that we can get it cheap...

jerome... woa.. I very impressed... a Petrus!! btw I also have a few bottles of  Chateau Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, year 2000... perhaps we meet some day to try it..  personally I find riesling (and certainly ice wines)  a bit too sweet ... although I must say I got hooked on wine because of it when I was on working/holiday in Germany/Austria.. many many moons ago..

re tax.. actually as you have pointed out, it is relatively cheaper to bring in quality wines because tax is on alcohol content... however, the last time I bought in wine ( a two crates), from Leeuvin estate (Art series) in Margaret River, Australia..  they picked up the tax charge & delivery charge.. I understand they have a distributer here in Singapore..

i have a Petrus, a pichon lalande, some rieslings and ice wine from rhine valley ...

wanted to get a rothschild and latour, but kenna stopped by the finance minster. @##$$%

yes, i brought back.

apparently, they tax you according to the alcohol content, not the price of the wine.

heng ar....

Jerome, are you going to share your collections of wine from Europe tour? Did you really bring back 10 bottles (as allowed by laws). Remember you showed us a sample picture of how the 10 bottles could be packed..

Chinkiasu, thanks! Recovering but not completely. Need to let the flu runs its course.. takes about 1 week. Re: NDP pictures... cannot lah.. standards are set so high by you and Ray, who have both 'paraded' your skillfully taken photos...

I managed to capture a few pictures from my windows last Saturday with 2 Chinooks, each with a Giant National Flag (ie 2 giant flags) and the rest of Apaches flying passed. This is how meticulous the whole NDP parade is. They have 2 chinooks taking off from PL airbase... one as backup.. both will fly towards western part of Singapore... Up to a point near the city, the backup will breakoff, leaving only one Chinook with the Apaches to fly pass the parade ground near Marina area..

hey Datuk Baseer ...  I have fully imbide the spirit of what it means to be a loyal follower of jabba foreign talent policy...

ah Singapore Sling.. is now an international cocktail.. created in Raffles Hotel at the Long Bar by Ngiam Tong Boon in 1910 Receipe: Pour grenadine into the bottom of a collins glass, and fill with ice. Add gin, and almost-fill with equal parts of sweet and sour and chilled soda. Top with cherry brandy, and serve unstirred, garnished with a cherry.

Come to think of it we should all drink it on National Day... it is also red and white.. red cherry brandy & white club soda...
