Hi Ray, thanks for the comments. Care to share which pennies would probably still be up on Monday even if the STI is down ?

Agatha, I think there will be profit taking on Monday for Chuan Hup.  I don't believe in giving target prices, so I can't comment about Sun Power.  Glad you're enjoying this thread.

Folks, as mentioned, it's an informal gathering.  Nothing to be shy about...  It's always good to put a face to a name.

Ck2236, Agatha's going to be even more shy knowing this. :)

1234567, the fall of DJI is expected, and healthy at this stage.  Observe if the 13265 position holds on Monday.  As for STI, I believe it should be down on Monday.  I can't make a broad statement saying how it's going to hit the pennies.  I already have in mind which pennies would probably still be up on Monday even if the STI is down.

Shinka, feel free to do whatever here.  It's supposed to be a thread for sharing, and you have raised an interesting topic.

Hi everyone, I know this is Ray's thread, but since everyone is pretty cool here. May I ask what are your experiences with your remiser? I think mine is not offering me any meat for my money.

Hi Mr Collin Seow, saw your website and think you are a better remiser than mine in that you have, at least, a website. My friend's remiser from Ocbc just asked him to apply for new IPO placement shares. But mine has nothing.  Anyone wanna comment?

Agatha, have you signed up? Drop me a mail once you've decided. I've spoke to a few forummers on MSN, and they seem a bit shy about not knowing anyone, and hence are hesitating about going. Don't worry, this is just a sharing session by Ray, and get-together for you all. Cheers.

Thanks Sojourner for providing this information again to the rest of the forum folks, and thanks for helping.  Don't know how I would have done it without your help.  Folks, we currently have a fairly good number of people coming for this gathering, if anyone else can afford the time, do contact Sojourner at his email address.  Nothing serious, just a gathering.  Will discuss a bit on technicals, techniques, psychology if possible.  We're trying to have the venue set at my friend's pub at Boat Quay.  Some folks asked if there is wireless internet access there, last I checked, there is.  Btw, in case anyone's wondering, I'm not soliciting anything and I'm insisting that no one would do such a thing during this gathering, purely a get-together and sharing session with people of the same interest.

GlenZen, going in on Monday for Sunlight should be okay.  Will provide a real-time confirmation on Monday if I'm able to access the internet as I may be caught up on an overseas trip.

More from the US

DJI is currently down.  In my personal opinion, nothing to worry about yet, actually it is very necessary as it allows us to invest with more certainty when it finally hits bottom and starts to move up again.  Look for near term support at 13265.

I've attached the following from CNBC.  Same old story and worries, nothing new.

With thanks to CNBC for the following information...

Stocks Tumble as Tax Bill, Subprime Woes Worry Wall Street

Stocks fell sharply, coinciding with a tax proposal from House Democrats that would impact hedge funds and private equity firms. The market was already lower amid continued concern about interest rates and worries that problems at two Bear Stearns hedge funds could spread to other financial institutions that held subprime mortgages.

"The bulk of the sell off is due to subprime fears," said Art Cashin of UBS Securities. He said a temporary delay of Bear Stearns conference call at midday created more nervousness.

"The other negative impact was the introduction of the tax bill to tax funds on carried interest," Cashin said.

Bear Stearns [BSC  142.93    -2.88  (-1.98%)   ] said on its midday call that its financial conditions remain strong and it does not see material impact on the company from market pressures. Bear plans a $3.2 billion rescue for one of its faltering hedge funds. Worries about the fund and the seizure of collateral by lenders has created nervousness across credit markets all week.

"There's more folks out there that have exposure to the subprime problem," said Robert Pavlik, chief investment officer at Oaktree Asset Management. "Bear Stearns isn't the only one. Sooner or later, it's going to affect somebody."

Selling was across the board with all of the S&P 500 sectors in the red. Declining shares outpaced advancers by more than two to one on the New York Stock Exchange.

"There's so much going on today," said Stephen Porpora, managing floor broker at William O'Neil. "We've got the interest issues with the bond jitters and subprime mortgage. The Russell 2000 rebalancing is a big deal and everybody's a little nervous about that.  It's going to be an interesting day."

Bond yields remained elevated amid concerns about the subprime mortgage sector and rising global interest rates.  The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose as high as 5.21%.

The most anticipated initial public offering of the year was the positive highlight on Wall Street today. Private-equity firm Blackstone kicked off its first day as a publicly-traded stock Friday. The company, which trades as "BX" opened at $36.45, an 18% premium to its $31 offering price. This was the largest IPO in five years.

Shares of Jabil Circuit [JBL  23.15    1.95  (+9.2%)   ] rose after the contract electronics manufacturer reported an adjusted fiscal third-quarter profit that topped Wall Street expectations.  The stock was also upgraded by Credit Suisse and RBC Capital Markets.

Consolidation in the news media was also in the spotlight as Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. [NWS  23.41    -0.30  (-1.27%)   ] edged closer to securing Dow Jones[DJ  58.99    -0.72  (-1.21%)   ] , when General Electric [GE  38.37    -0.43  (-1.11%)   ] and Pearson [PSO  16.71    0.14  (+0.84%)   ] decided not to pursue a joint offer for the news provider.

New York light sweet crude futures [US@CL.1  69.16    0.51  (+0.74%)   ] rose as markets monitored talks betweeen the Nigerian government and labor union officials to end a general strike in Africa's largest crude producer.

European Stocks Lackluster

European stocks were modestly lower Friday as merger and acquisition news took focus, but concern over conflict at the EU Summit weighed on sentiment.

The London FTSE-100, Paris CAC-40 and Frankfurt DAX were down slightly.

In acquisition news, the land grab for stock exchanges heated up as NYSE Euronext [NYX  75.97    -0.93  (-1.21%)   ] reportedly put in a preliminary rival bid for Borsa Italiana, according to the Wall Street Journal Web site.

The offer from the first trans-Atlantic exchange would match one made by the London Stock Exchange Thursday of $2 billion for the Milan-based bourse, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.

On the economic front, German business sentiment in June fell bellow expectations of analysts' polled by Thomson Financial, as the Ifo research institute said that June results were down from the previous months.

In political news, European leaders are wrangling with numerous contentious issues at the second day of an EU Summit in Brussels as Poland looked set to call for limitations to EU powers and a key competition objective was scrapped.

Asian Stocks Lower

Asian benchmarks fell across the board in the afternoon session as investors cashed-in on recent gainers.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index struggled to stay above the record 22,000 level it broke during the intraday session. The Shanghai Composite Index shed 3.3%.

Japan's Nikkei 225 [NIKKEI  18188.63    -51.67  (-0.28%)   ] fell 0.3% as investors took profit from major real estate plays like Mitsubishi Estate and Mitsui Fudosan.

But chipmakers like Advantest and Tokyo Electron continued to rally after the Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index leapt 3% to its highest level in a year.

South Korea's KOPSI also slipped, falling 1.3%.

Shares of Korea Exchange Bank dropped on reports majority shareholder Lone Star sold 13.6% of its stake in the lender at a discounted price. Hana Financial Group announced that it took part in an overnight block trade to purchase 1% of KEB shares.

Two IPOs in focus moved in opposite directions. Hong Kong-listed RREEF China Commerical Trust tumbled 10% below its inital price of HK$5.15 due to waning demand for property trusts. But Singapore's Cosmosteel Holdings shares more than tripled to S$0.685.

Australian shares were little changed on Friday, as Coles Group fell further on speculation Texas Pacific Group may drop its bid for the retailer.

Investors dumped shares of Caltex Australia, sending the stock down more than 10% as the oil giant's refining margins fell below expectations.

Elmo, I would suggest waiting for Monday or Tuesday for the price to trend lower first due to contra selling, before deciding.  I don't have a target price in mind for this.
