actually, might be a good idea to sit out march and even april. and prob again at end of year (thailand elections in sept. sure regional chaos man).
i know this chicken here is sitting out march. haha.
keke. he was probably busily accumulating all his babies. keke.
and ehhh!! ppl have lives outside of SJ ya know! can't expect them all to be online all the time..... haha.
Yep, looks like I'll have to sell off some other counters to channel more funds into mother and daughter. Then sit on both for the remainaing 12 months. Wonder how did Vic do today? No sign of him anywhere???
act, if i had any spare cash left, i would. But i distributed my funds out alr tho. So will not be greedy. :)
Further info adding on and repeating from victorian's post:
EDMI's EPS is 3.99c vs 2.8c previously. NTA of 20.5c vs 16.9c previously.
So taking historical PE ratio of 2x, that means the stock is worth 41c. If you go by EPS ratio, then fair value is 43c. So both ways it tallies. Industry ratio is 2-3x, which means upside (taking 42c as consensus) is potentially to 61.5c.
by tech calculations based on previous year's range (16c to high of 35.5 recently), i'm giving it 46-55c in one year's time. Nicely cornered and out of punters' radar too, so no bleeding like so many other stocks today. SMB more volatile, that's why i pref EDMI. I get enough rollercoasters in my TA trades alr. keke.
Elf, am thinking of getting some more. Greedy lah!
oh yea. this is the proof of a good counter. market haemorrhaged like crazy and our baby here only dropped 1c. wheee....go EDMI! keke.
Hey Vic, did you get some more EDMI or SMB?
Good morning Vic, thanks for the breakdown on the result. Mr market is in the mood to offer discount price to all today.
Cheers.
Good morning Vic..... like Elf said, owe you one too for spotting this counter. Yea, mother is slightly less expensive yet yield-wise splendid for both. Will go in more for the mother when market opens. Oh yes, will also patronise Food Junction too, you know what I mean.......he he Thanks man!
ooh yea. and this is why my long term money is mostly parked here.
in fact picked up more of it just yesterday. keke.
thanks victorian. owe ya one for spotting this counter man. :)
Hi Vic,
The result is out today, what's your opinion? I find it creditable and prospect quite positive.
Cheers.

dear vic, reading your detailed analysis on EDMI?SM. just like to sidetrack a little on EDMI/SM and ask you on general mother/daughter cos. how come for swiber/swissco, the upward movement are not in tandam?
victorian,
Sorry, what is TTL?
Yes, my experience of betting on mother share is only provided that the other businesses of the mother company is also doing well.
If only daughter company business is doing well, then better focus on that company.
Vic, EDMI on the move upwards! But is it a sustained northerly movement??? Hope so!! Cheers to all vested!
hey chaihock,
no prob. SMB is a better buy for long term in terms of value per dollar, tho be prepared to ride out the ups and downs. :)
saw your post on genting. From chart data alone: Monday likely to drop; it broke its lower bollie again. Not familiar with shorting (the time period for it and all that), but by my estimates, a 2-3c drop on monday. From there, one of two scenarios:
either ranging btwn 0.8-0.86 (due to desperate retailers buying it back in), or a further drop.
If it's the latter, then the drop is likely to be abt 8c. ie, end on friday at abt 73c.
This stock is a speculative stock, so its movement will depend entirely on sentiment, and has nothing to do with value at all. Was heavily sold down on friday. Note all figures given are just rough guidelines, pls don't take them as fixed targets!
Dear Victorian .ELFand Shplayer many many many thanks.
I will buy both.;more for SMB .Cheer !!!.
All your importances research and views ets. ..are very much appreciated.let all make $$$ for this GOLD PIG Year ahead.
Just want to share my views on 'mother and daughter' (why not son?) companies.
Two other examples....
SembCorp Ind (SCI) --- owns 62% of SembMar (SCM)
UIC ----- owns 72% of SpLand (SL).
About a year ago, I had all four counters in my portfolio. Then I reviewed my portfilio and took the following into consideration:
- All the major business segments (ex the daughter) of the UIC and SCI were doing well.
- The business of the SL and SCM were also doing well.=> it will also benefit the mother.
- The FAs of the mother was stronger than the daughter...vis a vis the stock price....i.e. daughters stock prices were more expensive (at that time).
With this, I realigned my portfolio to focus on the mothers.....sold the daughters...SL and SCM.
At that time:
- UIC was trading around 1.40 and SL around 7.00. Today, capital appreciation of UIC (2.57) is 83% vs SL (10.10) 44%.
- SCI and SCM were both trading around the $3.00 range. Today SCI is 4.70 and SCM is 3.64
So, my experience is, its a better bet (long term) to focus on the mother; provided the other business segments of the mother is also doing well.
hi chaihock,
i'm vested in edmi and not smb, so if i might share how i chose the daughter co instead of the parent, fyi in case it might help you make your choice. :)
as victorian has already noted: SMB is likely to do a series of dips and ups, while EDMI is likely to be a snail crawl upwards, with little downward action. In terms of actual value, EDMI is more solid cf to SMB, if you look at their NAV and PE ratios (victorian, am not sure of smb's exact data here tho). Plus, logic follows that since EDMI is the daughter, then likely movement is EDMI up first, then SMB.
Added to that is the stability of cornered share float, so you're not likely to see the action that SMB has (which is a plus point for me, since i can just go to sleep on this counter even in correction times). One negative point is as victorian pointed out tho: edmi has a very tight float. you probably have to be willing to buy at seller's price and just grab whatever lots come up.
chaihock,
Guess victorian has answered your question.
Anyway, whilst I monitor and am vested in SMB, I don't track EDMI....so, I would not have been able to advise.
