Example 1...

In a correctly assumed downtrend -

Bought at 4.20, cut loss at 4.12 (loss = 8c)

            Buy in again at 3.00 and hold . (loss is 8 + 10 = 18c)

Example 2...

Bought at 4.20 and hold and hold

            Buy in again at 3.00 ( loss =$1.20 + 8c =$1.28)

it makes no sense if u insist u says will down to 2.50, why " closed" yr position???? u make others confused, magari style- this also can, that also bolak.  if u are so sure, why close, cos u afraid that it is rebounding...??? those follow u, i think dying soon.....poor u...wanting to gain followers....ask shorting (in fact not shorting) and price down, boasting himself how clever he is, and a slight rebouce, quickly post , " close position" lao......don fool in front of old dog, try others " pattern la" next time....

My statement:

Paper loss = Money Cost Averaging = Hold = Most chances to turn around to gain so far  = Rare and very tiny amount is self destruction so far (< 0.01% gone with the wind cases).

Cut loss = Real loss = I am afraid. It is not found in my investment dictionary.

capland      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 16:20) Posted:

paper loss= hold= got channce to see it up again

cut loss+ lost forever..cannot recoup

des_khor      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 16:17) Posted:

Now I shall say there are two types of lost ...

1) Confirm lost = sold

2) Paper lost = hol

A loss is a loss, whether it is stated on paper (statement) or not.

Of course to a rich person, no loss is a loss,

even if it is stated on paper, since he has enough

money to withstand the highs and lows... Smiley

oh. now i understand... to be a long term investor- u must willing to accept paper loss. cos no one can predict...traders cut loss, while investor hold paper loss. They only loss when they feel the FA of the company has lost its competitives to its peers. CPl and UOL are the 2 most diversify portfolio now. Although envirnoment is unfavourable now- just temporary. But once China and sg begins to stable, u will see UOL and cpl will lead the others...cross fingers...

It is only human to agonise over big losses.

Especially when there's no such thing as 'paper loss'.

des_khor      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 15:57) Posted:

iPunter himself already said nobody know the trend .... In the first place how can you , me , they , he , she or even Temasek know ? If can know the future price , the market will not move up or down as everyone will go the same direction....

capland      ( Date: 13-Jun-2011 15:50) Posted:

thats u also means when u buy a house at high price and when there is a downturn , u will sell yr house? poor chap, then u may end up no house to stay... i believe those who vested in stocks before the downturn choose to hold, regardless the paper loss, and sell when price recover. Even our temasek had hold on to their paper losss, now declared that they had fully recovered. .. pls explain

Traders mindset is always one-sided. They think cutting loss is the only solution. If it applies to properties. they ended up homeless. Our temasek had loss billions in [paper loss during the crsis, did they sell all? No , they instead increase their holdings, a good bargain to buy...and end out a winner.  Learn from them.  traders find it hard to know that when there is down,. it won go forever, what goes down will go up...
