Don't 'pray-pray' with monkeys ah!

Philosophy of the Stock Market

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared who announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for RM10.00.  The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys in the forest, went out and started catching them.

The man bought thousands at RM10.00.  As supply started to diminish and villagers started to stop their efforts, he announced that now he would buy them at RM20.00.

This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon, the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms.

The offer rate was increased to RM25.00 and the supply of monkeys became so scarce that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it.

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at RM50.00.  However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of the man.

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers, "Look at all the monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected.  I will sell them to you at RM35.00 and when the man comes back, you can sell them to him for RM50.00 each."

The villagers queued up with all their savings to buy the monkeys.

After that, neither the assistant nor the businessman could be found anywhere but the monkeys were everywhere!

Hi Elf,

Regarding the swiping of your CPF for HDB. Yes, you are correct, they will take everything that's inside before they give you a loan, be it a bank or a HDB loan.  To work around this, you can park a portion of it in any short term FD so that you can have access to it should you want to invest in stocks or to use it as a buffer should you decide to stop work for a period.  You will have to work out the amount to set aside though....

Hope that helps.

Dear Fellowshipers..... I thought you would like to know about there is an urgent campaign to free the remaining South Korean aid workers who have been taken hostage by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. The Taliban have already executed 2 hostages and are threatening to execute the rest this week, an action that could trigger a mass evacuation of life-giving humanitarian aid from all of Afghanistan.

The situation is desperate, but there is hope. The Taliban are all from the 'Pashtun' ethnic group, and observe a strict code called Pashtunwali. This code demands, above all else: "hospitality to all, especially guests and strangers". There are rumours of infighting among the Taliban over these kidnappings, because they clearly violate the code.

A global outcry for the Taliban to follow their own code would certainly be covered by media in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the Taliban are based â?? creating massive local pressure on them to free their prisoners. But these hostages are living under a 24 hour death sentence. We have seconds not minutes to act. If you wish to do something about it, pl copy this note and email to your friends...

haha. apologies manikamaniko. ipunter is easier to type. :P yea, shd take your advice regarding fruit juice vs alcohol. bad for liver. sigh.

weh. mister victorian. no choice lah. standby this entire week; damn shacked out with wk and all the bleeping politics there. :(

actually, have a qn which hope those newly weds/etc just buying HDB flats can help with: when you buy your flat, did the govt deduct your entire CPF straightoff?

am facing that unexpected problem now. it's like they wanna take my entire CPF at one shot, which means i'm tied to my job for at least another year. :( i had hoped to continue the loan, so i'd have had some years' grace to build up sufficient funds, but now that's gone. :(((((

damn stressed. so mister victorian.. that's why no time to think abt stocks and all. hope you can understand. just too dispirited. but anw, do keep on doing what you're doing. :) and dun gotta worry abt elf. market-wise, i'm down only abt 3%. lines are very fluid so no worries there. :)

(to the rest, apologies and do indulge....elf 'reporting' to victorian. ahahaha.)

k nites, gonna watch some tv and prepare for next week. *breathe, breathe...* sigh. meh meh mehhhhhhh.

Hi Victorian2 and Ray,

Thank you for the sharing on Saturday - I came away enlightened and wiser.  Unfortunately, I also realised that you need money to make more money after hearing the kind of portfolio you both are handling.  Now, if you don't have this peanut to start with, what do you recommend?  Smiley

CKS,

No choice, have to write in to thank you. Nice set of emoticons... and yes elf, never come.

Basseerahmed, My session in the morning lasted 3hrs..  while mine in the afternoon lasted just 1hr 45mins. It was a tought work week for me last week. Did not feel that I was as comprehensive or passionate as I wanted to be as compared to the morning session & defintely due to one key factor. Speakers' Fatigue. Ray's entry in at 4plus did helped a lot. I asked a few that were in the morning candidly that stayed a 2rd session and yes.... (probably explains why the donations was so much less in the afternoon than int he morning by 3Xs). Have to mentioned Harryp.... $500 and didn't even turn up & sent the cheque. Thanks!!!

And the objective was to teach people who to fish from a FA pt of view and not to discuss stock tips (that's illegal).. It's hard work and will take many sessions & practical handson to master at least from an academic standpoint. I'll do it once a I have a good pool of facilitators (whom I'm training at this moment) and have a sustainable model of raising funds for my schoolks I want to support.

Many thanks for Rosanne, Jess, Tess, Shawn and Desmond (PP clicker).

For those who came to me for advice in this trying period. Stay cool & avoid the speculatives. Though my potfolio is down 15-20%, I'm talking about 2-5c with the exception of say Hiap Hoe, I'm confident of the coy's that I'm in as fundamentals don't change overnight. INvestor sentiment.... yes so portfolio management & cashmanagment is key now.

Furthermore, stocks don't just go up like that...

... They need to form an accumulation base over an extended period of time before they can "cheong"... Smiley

The Dow is in bad shape...

It doesn't feel likely to go up for  the time being...

Further damage is more likely to follow...
since the hope of a "triple bottom" is now shattered.. Smiley
