FOCUS

Straits Asia Resources: Courtship in the works?

Summary
: Straits Resources Ltd’s (SRL) divestment of its 47.1% stake in Straits Asia Resources Ltd (SAR) had led to speculation over a possible takeover offer for SAR. Press reports have alluded to possible interest from several strategic investors, including Noble Group Ltd and Indika Energy. Our preliminary assessment of SRL’s short term debt profile suggests that it has no need to sell its entire 47.1% stake in SAR in order to meet its near term debt repayment obligations. Nevertheless, we view the keen interest from strategic investors as a testimony of SAR’s attractive valuations and viable assets. We maintain our BUYrating on SAR with S$1.35 fair value estimate. As for Noble, it is moving from an “asset-light” business model to an “asset-medium” model and could use present depressed valuations to execute its plans. Historically, it has taken up only minority interests in its investments and is likely to continue with this approach.  As such, even if Noble emerges as a potential investor in SAR, we do not expect it to launch a takeover offer. We have a BUY rating on Noble with S$1.58 fair value estimate. (Lee Wen Ching)

U are right...now got CFD...so???ppl are into this..so i think force selling if there is , is also mininum.. not a concern..am i right???that why it is steady...but i would like your guy here opinion...today i observe at 90c q to sell 3000 over lots...a little fishy here...but there are definitely support, otherwise the px would have gone south by now...

I means to say the play is still on...i bought more today at 89..

Why must say ' force selling ' ? I think say ' cut lost ' better right ? I don't believe the person able to trade have to wait until the brokage firm force sell their holding ?

PT Indika the Indonesian party might come up the winner.  I believe Indonesians are real rich. What abt Noble?  Today I see some selling in blue chips e.g. DBS to get money? Guess work only.

Needs alot of money to takeover.  Now big seller selling 3000 lots, means at $3 million dollars.  To go up in price buyers must use at least double amt maybe $6 million dollars and push further up?
