Elfin: Please, would need your help to advice me something, when u mentioned about the red line below the black line for MACD, is the black line the line where the bars are sticking out from, ie, black line is in the centre of the chart? Its just a center line and the red line is actually a curve? I was using SJ to look at MACD for 1 of my counters. Thanx.

Baseer: heheh... i think perhaps the terms are rather alien and i'm still trying to digest the definitions for each of them from investopedia and make sure that i'm applying them correctly.

TradeChancellor :  hahaha ! ....its a bit funny .. i find looking at a charts and indicators a bit easier than combing thru numbers in FA !

Well, the recent correction woke me up to the fact that I had to be more careful and disciplined to stick to my style of investing. Lost $1700 within a few weeks. Caused my 2007yr profits to be reduced. Most importantly, need to learn some TA ratios like MACD, A/D, RSI on top of the FA ratios. Hmmm.... realised the TA ratios seem to be harder to understand than the FA ratios though.

I dumped all my stocks when I was posting messages in which I suggested "bad sentiment would gradually be  seeping in" .... it all started with that 'contrarian call' to pull out of local stocks... and also my reading of the market's internal behaviour as I scoured many, many individual counters..

Now...looking back, I think I have to give myself a pat!... Smiley

Hi elfie and others,

Did the recent correction affect any of you badly? I managed to get out in time for all of my counters except for one. Lost some money on that counter.

Does your office block access to Poems or other brokerage websites?

Thanks for the info. Interesting to note that all the stocks listed are penny stocks and prone to large volatility.

If one is buying shares for the long term and not for trading, then i do not see the point of refering to the share px every now and then.

hm sohguanh, if one is really into making money, then it isn't so simple as in keying in the day before and check the status at night. not unless you're that good in predicting the prices; or are willing to settle for lesser profits.

unless one is that zen that, in this kind of market fall, you can still look at the screen only once a day. i don't believe there isn't a single investor who could do that the past two weeks without worry. anw, no point whining. just adapt and play accord. will likely trade the way you said; thanks for pointing it out. :)

stupidfool, my point is not abt an entire office playing shares and not working. my point is: if i can WORK EFFECTIVELY and trade, why should i be penalised for being more efficient? as it is, i was hired for one thing and am taking on two other persons' jobs. but i still deliver on time, i've never missed a single deadline. AND i'm being made to take on more. (can i clarify here that i've never been the kind to work only one job at a time. previous years, i held one full time and two part times)

anw, like i said, moot point. what is, is. just follow accordingly. i will not expect sympathy or any such crap from anyone: cos ultimately, life is how you make it. people block one way, there is still another. no such thing as dead end. i'm still gonna spin straw into gold no matter and whatever it takes. hehe.

cheers to all! :)

stupidfool: the reason is becuz elfin adopt a trading like style for some of the stocks and hence need some constant monitoring. if she is those buy and hold long term then the nite before key in the sell and buy price and queue can already. day time work in peace. at nite go back check the transaction status.

typo: i meant popdod. aside: elfie's office is blocking websites and tracking our mails and net usage. so won't be posting much during office hrs now. :( i really don't see the logic of it tho. i mean, i can make 2 mths salary in a single week trading (of course, i can also lose just as much ahahaha). but the point is, if i can work effectively, AND trade, why should a basic freedom like net surfing be curtailed? i got a flat to pay for! if i don't trade, i have to work til what, 35 to make enough for other ppl, and then when do i start earning for myself?!!! )(#*_(#&_(*&@_ govt job. :(

ok, the news i was referring to below is out. the lender has been named, so it's ok if i say it out now (since it's no longer slander, or speculation...SJ-ers pls excuse me for not saying earlier; but i didn't want to say anything based on rumor/speculation, since that engenders unnecessary panic). popodod posted it on the dow/sti thread: it's lehman brothers that is in trouble. one more firm yet to be named. wld be interesting to see if this has any effect on the current positive sentiment.

If Alan Greensapn & Ben Bernanke are both Jewish, then no surprise that they are fed chairman...Jews are well known to be 'Giam', good, too good with $$.

if the risk/reward ratio is 1: 2.5 or more, i take it. having said that tho, it isn't an exact science.

so what now? if the fed does cut rates, we're likely to see a rally and spike, and then a swift down?

Scalping is only for the pits (where you can actually see the odds right in front of you, and thus can gain a point or two therefrom).

But does scalping in the stock market makes any sense at all, considering the risk/reward aspect???

But unfortunately, many are playing this futile senseless game!... Smiley
