I find the following sentence very interesting :

" He put the greatest emphasis on the importance of study, and it is the Chinese character for study (or learning) that opens the text. "

When the Angel Gabriel first appeared to Prophet Mohammed , the very first that was uttered by the angel was the word "Iqra" meaning "read" . Thus the very first word of the revelation of Quran is " Read "

Most dynasties last longer than any private families because they relied on experts to help in the running of the countries. Yet most on them lasted not more than 20 generations. I wonder any family can trace to 77 generations as in the case of Confucius. The last holder of the title, Kung Te-cheng of the 77th generation, was appointed Sacrificial Official to Confucius.

The current head of the household is Kung Te-cheng, a professor at National Taiwan University. He previously served in the Republic of China government as President of the Examination Yuan. Kung married Sun Qifang, the great-granddaughter of the Qing dynasty scholar-official and first president of Beijing University Sun Jianai, whose Shouxian, Anhui, family created one of the first business combines in modern-day China, which included the largest flour mill in Asia, the Fou Foong Flour Company in Shanghai. The Qianlong Emperor married a daughter to Kong Xianpei of the 72nd generation, linking the Aisin-Gioro Imperial house with the Kong family.

In the Analects, Confucius presents himself as a "transmitter who invented nothing".[7] He put the greatest emphasis on the importance of study,[21][22] and it is the Chinese character for study (or learning) that opens the text. In this respect, he is seen by Chinese people as the Greatest Master.[23] Far from trying to build a systematic theory of life and society or establish a formalism of rites, he wanted his disciples to think deeply for themselves and relentlessly study the outside world,[24] mostly through the old scriptures and by relating the moral problems of the present to past political events (like the Annals) or past expressions of feelings by common people and reflective members of the elite (preserved in the poems of the Book of Odes[25]).[26]

This is what I meant as principles.

i suppose ... every 1st generation must provide education and instill in the 2nd generation that they should also work like the 1st generation  ... therefore we won't have the 3rd generation to sell off the bullock cart.... hahaha !

There is a saying :

The 1st generation worked like a bull.

The 2nd generation rode on bullock cart.

The 3rd generation sold the bullock cart.

And the cycle starts again.

Can any family institute some principles where their descendants can make sure that their prosperity last longer than 3 generations ?

"Rich people plan for three generations. Poor people plan for Saturday night." ? Gloria Steinem

Would you like to protect your family, bring them closer together and have them speak fondly of you, not only today but long after you?re gone?

Good. Start making a will today? or update your existing one.

(posted for no particular reason .. just thought it is a good advice .. got reminded of Song Jiang of Water Margin ...hahaha ! )

ok .. let's list the reasons why this thread is quiet ..

hmmm..

maybe becos of the school holidays ...

maybe becos of the ghost month ....

maybe becos of the fatigue set in waiting for the market to set a direction ...

maybe becos off side remarks are made in other threads ..

maybe becos energy is conserved to strategize the next move when market picks up ....

and ..

maybe elfinchide is not here .... hahaha !

..please keep the listings going ....hahaha !

: )
