Venture Corp's 20 per cent fall in earnings appears disappointing, but this was largely due to CDO losses that have been marked-to-market, DMG research analyst Terence Wong said on Thursday.
Mr Wong said stripping off non-operating components, the company managed decent bottomline growth of 13 per cent.
'We believe that the fall in headline earnings will result in some near-term selling, and this should be seen as an opportunity to buy into a quality SGX-listed tech company,' he noted.
Ascribing a 12x P/E to the stock, DMG attained a target price of $12.96 a share for Venture.
Venture was trading down 32 cents at $11.30 on Thursday afternoon. -- BT Newsroom

Kim Eng Research on Thursday downgraded Venture to a hold as the stock has reached fair valuation.
'At the current price however, Venture is valued at 11x FY08F EPS, inline with the average of its peers in Taiwan and the US,' the research house said.
It added that with the US dollar weakness an on-going concern and the possible slowdown of corporate demand, it downgraded the stock to a 'hold' with a fair value of $12.80, based on 12x earnings, a slight premium to the sector.
Kim Eng recommended investors to 'take advantage of strength in the stock to reduce positions'.
The shares were trading down 34 cents, at $11.38 each on Thursday afternoon. -- BT Newsroom

Venture profit falls 20%
SINGAPORE - Contract electronics firm Venture Corp posted an unexpected 20 per cent slide in quarterly earnings, hit by slower orders, a weaker US-Singapore dollar exchange rate and losses in its investment portfolio. Venture, Singapore's second-largest contract electronics maker after Nasdaq-listed Flextronics International Ltd, earned $56.7 million (US$42.1 million) for January-March, compared with a revised $71.1 million in the same period a year ago.
