May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. climbed the most in more than five years in Singapore trading on speculation it will win orders from Advanced Micro Devices Inc., its second-largest client.
Chartered jumped 13 percent to 97 Singapore cents at the close on Singapore's stock exchange, the highest gain since November 28, 2002.
Advanced Micro, which has posted six straight losses, said on May 8 it plans to revive earnings by cutting equipment spending and exiting unprofitable businesses. Chief Executive Officer Hector Ruiz didn't specify which units he plans to get rid of. The Sunnyvale, California-based company has chip production factories in Dresden, Germany.
``There's talk that AMD wants to go asset-light and Chartered may potentially take over its manufacturing facility in Germany or manufacture more of its products,'' said Ming Kai Cheng, a Taipei-based analyst at CLSA Asia Pacific, who rates Chartered shares ``underperform.''
Chartered spokeswoman Celestine Lim declined to comment.
Advanced Micro was Chartered's second-largest client after Broadcom Corp. in 2007.

If you happen to drive past BKE towards the checkpoint... one can see there are some construction works going on at Chartered... + Chartered has just acquired HNS..
Strong bullish TA signals.
But historically, chartered has been a very volatile counter. It goes up and down pretty quickly.
Bloomberg reported maybe Advanced Micro Devices deal.
