DJ MARKET TALK: Ban Joo +2.6%; To Enter China Media Business

0327 GMT [Dow Jones] Ban Joo (B07.SG) +2.6% at S$0.20 in active trade, possibly on hopes money-losing textile maker will turn around with entry into China's media industry via proposed purchase of China Civil Media Corp., which runs China Central Television's Internet-based TV legal system channel. Firm will fund purchase via issue of shares at S$0.30 each; actual number of shares to be issued depends on China Civil Media's 2008, 2009 earnings, which sellers have guaranteed to be at least S$1 million each year. Despite shares' gains, viability of deal uncertain given Ban Joo's lack of experience in media business; deal follows earlier move unveiled in June for Ban Joo to provide consultancy services to a China-based paperless lottery business. Resistance tipped at S$0.22 (July 27 close).

Personally think BJ will trade >30cts as first tranche to old investor was at 20cts and next tranche would be at 40cts while for latest new investors will be at 30cts as per above...CCTV and paperless lottery are complementary to one another, with new management, new investors plus change of auditor and financial year end to 30sept instead of 30june...a total revamp of textile business should be worth 50cts...even China Hongcheng newly listed textile base co can be at 53cts..why not Banjoo???Just be patient as its financials will be in the black this financial year with Guaranteed profit of $107mil spread over 5 years and profit is booked immediately this year as spelt in its earlier MOU

25mil done at 20cts..definitely worth collecting..will surpass Lottis soon.

I agree with your view .... but if the latest acquisition helps them to get the lottery business.... to me ... not an issue .....

the following has occured:

1. Managing Director has resigned
2. Change of auditors
3. Change of financial year end
4. Set up of subsidiary with business in trading
5. Latest acquisition
6. MOUs to sell shares at $0.20 & $0.40
7. MOUs to sell shares at $0.30

Are these all preludes to the lottery business??

Only time will tell ... Rolling Eyes

The latest aquisition of China's CCTV is a wise move to enhance its image throughout PRC and finance at 30cts above its current price of 19cts means co has confident BJ is worth at least 30cts.First tranche was issue at 20cts to earlier investors and next tranche will be at 40cts and this 30cts for newest investors was arrived at proabably aftertaking into consideration current mkt turmoil.SSE continue to achieve new record high despite temporary hiccup when China raised and when  global mkts corrects sharply because of subprime loans  in US..Gd to accumulate at 18 to 19cts level unlikely to drop further.See forum readers comments which I agree wholeheartedly.

The question is this new aquisiton, is it positive, negative or neutral.
First of all, when lottery bz MOU transalte into agreement within the next 3 weeks, we all agree it is postive.
Now someone suggest that maybe lottery bz off and and replace it with this.
If you read the statement carfully, this is not true, in fact the statement does give a strong indication that the lottery MOU progressing forward with its statment on synergy between the two investment.. The words used if not true tantamount to misleading public investors or manupulating the market. This is a very serious matter.
SO the news is NOT neutral, NOT negative. It is positive. I think this is a surprise bonus.
The fact that BJ (whoever is running it right now), managed to negotiate a deal at 30cts for Banjoo new shares is good news!

If both core investors are prepared to pay 30cts average for the stock, what about outside investors. The answer is in market sentiment.
In the May-June sentiment, this stock will end the day between 35cts to 38cts. WIth today's sentiment, it may be between 27cts to 31cts.

My assesment is conditonal that no large investors are manupulating behind the scene.

We must give credit to BJ managment to acquire another chuck of potential profit thus increasing the earnings per share.

When both deals are completed, this becomes a Chinese owned stock with Chinese business.

Forget about getting at 15cts..initially may drop to 18cts force sellinng but many pple going to buy...but mkt works the other way...go up oinstead of drop..look at Chinese mkts..Dow drop ..SSE record high..Strong buy

In the past, before the news were out, we speculated "worse case" scenarios like "profit warning" or even that the "MOU" didn't pull thru, NOW FINALLY THE NEWS IS OUT...AND IT INDICATES THAT IT IS NEITHER...IN FACT ITS STARTING TO EXECUTE THE MOU. I think from that perspective, the news is indeed positive.  BANJOO CHEONG AHH !!!

quote="happyday"]Hope some good new,

Chinese vice premier Hui Liangyu on Friday called for better management and supervision the country's welfare lottery industry.

A ceremony of the 20th anniversary of China's welfare lottery was held in Beijing.

Hui said the welfare lottery industry had made great contributions to the nation's public welfare.

The lottery has raised a total of 242.3 billion yuan over the past two decades, of which 80.9 billion yuan was raised for national public welfare funds, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs .

The ministry said the fund was mainly used for the development of social welfare facilities, education and health care for orphans, the elderly and the disabled. More than 10 million people have benefited from the funds, according to the ministry.

With the rapid development of the welfare lottery industry, this year the nation's welfare lottery sales are expected to exceed 60 billion yuan, said the ministry.

Civil Affairs Minister Li Xueju said the welfare lottery had become an effective force to promote the country's social welfare and would continue to make a contribution to building a harmonious society.

By the end of 2006, China's social welfare organizations had increased to 40,456 from 31,468 in 1987. More than 1.41 million people have been supported in welfare houses, a six-fold increase compared with 1987.

China launched its first lottery in June 1987. Lottery ticket sales are one of the major sources of funds for building community sports facilities and financing the country's social welfare programs.

China's lottery market has expanded quickly over the last two decades but the China Welfare Lottery Management Center still describes the market penetration of the lottery in China as low.

As in 2006, China's per capita lottery sale account for only 0.66 percent of the per capita net income, equivalent to only one to two percent of the world average.

Source: Xinhua[/quote]...Smebody more complex and definitely brewing and good for all vested.Unlike Lottis which may hve its contract to supply lottery equipment rescinded..Banjoo is directly involved in the paperless, welfare lottery-guaranteed profit of S$105mil over 5years starting from this year 1st July 2007 i.e Banjoo no > the loss making textile co but turnaround into a major player of lottery biz in China

The 1st to run is those deep pocket players who can even buy at cheaper value....like Lottvis -9ct or down 23.4% before it is halted at 29.5c even with DOW+280 points. No used..

Just a word of advise..cut lost is very painful, don't cut losses is even more painful...this week will be will be another force selling week with Thursday a public holiday. (National Day)
