I mean the high dividend pay did boost the share price but it is likely not to be continued when new owner takes over......and this will not help the share price....
But I might be wrong......
Technically, anything above $1.22 will be deemed as expensive as of now........
u recommend to Buy ?

It is STX Europe taking the dividend not giving. STX OSV is the milking cow. I believe the STX Group is in need of money. That's
why they sold the 50.75% so desperately. After all they already taken much dividend and make already from IPO. They even sell part of STX Pan
Ocean. If STX OSV is the golden goose, Fincantieri will try very hard to take it private.
I remember Osprey (oil exploration company) was taken private so as Cerebos. Lately APB and soon F& N. If they can make good money,
they might as well have the cake and eat it too!

I am not sure of reasons but when stx osv change hand, I think the dividend is less likely to be so good.....
With good dividend earlier, it boost the stock price at that time...........

Have to watch the immediate support for STX OSV.
Trade base on chart pattern.

Yup,  I believe STX OSV mother co must have a real good reason to work together with  Italian shipbuilder Fincantier ... it probably is seeking to tap on the  Italian shipbuilder Fincantier's expertise and network.
When the deal is done, both side can work in synergy and no longer as competitor  so that it can then work toward boosting its visibility and confidence for the future investors ...
That's right an initial investment of 1.22 ( no loss in the mother co's perspective ) is really worth it as it sees its long term goals ...
Cheers

well, talking about the dividend.........I think it is too generous......why do you think stx europe want to pay such a high dividend????
:)
OZ mgt sold some at about $1.65 after takong all the interim and final dividends...they also bought some along the way from 1.48-1.56...and the bulk was bought from STX Europe at $1.33...I sincerely don't think they will let go at $1.22 even though at this price OZ already break even or more than breakeven taking into consideration...likley will hope for higher share price since the FYE 31Dec 2012 will be reported by 31Mar 2013..another 8% final dividend and STX is still very profitable with billions of contracts and more on the way and being the world's largest specialised craftmaker..its tieup with this Italian co will push its share even higher, that's what most other shareholders want and uultimately this Italian co will want too..if say share  price hit > $2.oo...look at its intial investments at $1.22 verses $2.00 in 6 months time

just a gentle reminder that not all funds are always right..
don buy or sell just because there are certain funds buying/selling the stock...
u will be shocked if u know how the fund managers work..
haha ... so typo error ...

I mean OZ mgt will not let the share go so easily .... I buy above 1.33  .... and holding about  11 - 12% ... and every selling at 1.22 means a lot of loss ..

Fund managers need to answer to their bosses and other share holders / investors ...

Yes, I agree this is one of the best dividend co that I have seen. This is even better than most REIT.
STX OSV gave out 10c in Apr and 13c in August for every share of trading about 1.4-1.6 that is really really good.
In my personal opinion (I hope I am right), the new co. will also doing well because the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has good tract record which is trying to venture into OSV to compliment their ship building legacy.
I guess we can wait patiently to allow them to sort out their operation & business model, it should do well.
While waiting we can also anticipate good dividend payout which will be coming soon. In the meantime, maybe the stock price movement may  be muted due to fiscal cliff and unknown mandatory offer outcome.
My guess is the OZ fund mgt will let go so easily and of course lot of others small shareholder will also won't let it go at 1.22.
I guess the floor price is 1.22 and it will just hover around 1.305 to 1.345 and then suddenly when confidence returns ( nobody knows when, it can be 2 Jan 13 or sometimes later), the price will gap up above 1.35 and it will move up again ...
Cheers

On hindsight, why STX OSV gave 13c interim dividend? So STX Group already taken 13c off the table and they have 50.75%.
Never seen a company so generous with interim dividend!

Downside risk is limited, worst case down to $1.22 …, upside seems good.
Still puzzling why STX Grp wanted to sell STXOSV a good company away at discounted price...
The dark candles these two days doesn't look promising.

merlin_magic, I think you made a good decision to cut lose. Base on my analysis, this counter will not be spike up in next couple of weeks. Tendency to go downtrend will be higher than uptrend.
Done at 1.305 after I sold my old batch which i bought earlier at 1.31 at 1.32 (by mistake)
Would I regret my purchase decision?
I tend to feel that this stock will be trending lower in the next few months.... As we all know, it is in  a highly cyclic business and the parents sold its business at a price of $1.22 and ipo it at only$0.79 earlier.......stx europe should be happy since they are willing to ipo at 79 cents initially......
We always compare it with kpcorp and sembmare and we should as it is building ship that serve that industry.....but stx osv is different from kepcorp and sembmarine........For those vested, perhaps it will be good to check where in the cycle is stx osv now is in.....................

OSK: STX OSV $1.22 Takeover Price Too Low
STX OSV's shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam. The $1.22 takeover offer price for STX OSV is somewhat low given its relatively strong balance sheet, said OSK analyst Jason Saw in a report.
STX OSV has net cash of S$0.35 per share and the offer values the stock at 7x FY13F P/E.
The $1.22 offer price is at 13% discount to its last closing price and a 17.5% discount to the weighted average price of the last three months.
This depressed sale price could be primarily driven by the desperation of the STX Group to sell its assets to pare down debts. The STX Group is also looking to sell its shipping unit, STX Pan Ocean.
He believes the general offer is unlikely to succeed for the following reasons:
(1) The offer price is at substantial discount to the current price ($1.40)
(2) Offerer Fincantieri might not get the acceptance level to take the company private.
?Assuming Fincantieri did not manage to get full acceptance to its general offer and the stock stays listed, we believe the change in major shareholder could remove the overhang on the stock and lead to a re-rating of the stock.
"We maintain BUY with a target price of S$2.05 based on 12x FY13F P/E.?
i dont think so. contra ?
