Yeah, agree with your view in 2nd para  -  fundamentally ok  stocks which have recently  plunged by 60 % or more due to foreign fund withdrawals or panic / forced margin called selling.

If right ones  (which?) are picked at right time (when? ), then  hopefully  can see very nice investment returns within next few years. Think  it  would also be helpful to pick those with healthy div records; at least can still continue to receive regular div income stream ( important for me) without resort to selling the stocks.

Depend on whether your invest time frame for this stock. 0.7 for long term can buy. Actually when it is at 0.65 i feel like buying. But this stock will be those slow and steady kind and can keep.

Due to my limited capital left, im looking for those stock that got more potential to go up faster. So as to accumulate more capital at this point of time since the crisis will not be over so soon... There are so many opportunity around now. But if i get in this one, I will be holding on for long time.

;)

Hi Freeme, thanks for your reply.

This stock looks ok for retiree - steady div every 3 mths - min 5 cents per yr.

Price shot up today closing at 70.5 cents.

Do you think  should wait to buy at $0.50 ?

NAV is usually below the market price per share. So I do not use that as a gauge

unchanged. However, q2 eps drops 4%. Final div might be lower, but 5c/0.66 still = 7.5%!

Today's Straits Times  reported about funds taking profits from their sales of defensive stocks; SingPost mentioned too.

Wondering who  selling away SingPost shares?

Checked SGX announcements related to SingPost. Nil  recent announcement about sales of shares from any subtantial shareholder .

However, substantial shareholder The Capital Group Companies Inc., USA ( holds about 11.97%  as at 17 Jan 2008 ) last announcement was made  on 18 January 2008 reporting disposal of 18,829,664  shares were disposed through a series of transactions from 19 NOVEMBER 2007 through 17 JANUARY 2008.

Wow, how come such long delay of 2 MONTHS (from 19 Nov 2007) in reporting change of share-holding by  substantial shareholder?

Wow 'freeme' is really very zhun - Singpost got prime coverage in the ST this morning -

quote ".....  SingPost stock, which yields over 8 per cent, has sunk by almost 30 per cent over the same duration. Contrast this with the broader-based Straits Times Index (STI), which has fallen by 28.1 per cent in the same period.

'It's irrational selling,' said Mr Lionel Lee, investment manager at private equity firm IBS. 'Foreign funds are taking profit ............

'If you're in for the long term, defensive stocks should be fine,' said DMG & Partners' head of research, Mr Terence Wong.

SingPost is another defensive bet that analysts like to recommend during such periods of deteriorating economic outlook.

They say the firm might even have a special dividend, as there is the potential unlocking of hidden value in SingPost Centre, possibly via a sale of the building.

'The group will continue to explore opportunities in unlocking the value of Singapore Post Centre,' SingPost said during the release of its first-quarter results in July.

It has fallen steadily over the past few weeks, and present good opportunity to average down. Good dividend play. Not an inducement to buy.
