hi, when i first started, initially was making money-few hundred $ per trade.
Then i got cocky and careless. eventually i lost around $30k. heart break, but when the going gets tough the tough get going.
So i saved up enough money to start again. The $30k was worthwhile "school fees" that no college or university can offer. Cos this is the real world of trading, with so many variables, psychology, and emotions involved.
In real life, one-night stands are a No-No!.
But in the stock market, many swear by it! :)
Not necessary so, as trends could sometimes go the opposite direction due to sentiments prevailing in the environment.Sentiments always affect the trend movements. Therefore, if you're a trend trader be very careful of the signals (strong, weak or just 1-nite-stand). Cheers!
trend is our friend.
Follow the trend, leverage on index warrants, put to take bear and call when bull is charging.....
can have some good lunch money
CFD is for pros only. with Sg brokerage offering ouny 30 days CFD only. The risk is so high for noobies. 5x leverage means 5 times losses or winnings. 1 wrong trade and good bye. Unless u are good in timing the market, else can forget it.
Overseas CFD is unlimitead period holding as long as u pay the interest..
CFD can long or short for unlimted period.
The time limit is actually not the problem (as one should have entered on a goodly-timed entry point), but rather the leverage.
Since warrants are so much 'cheaper', people normally bet heavy. It is equivalent to buying many many more lots at the normal price of the stock.
Thus this is why losses can be so devastating when playing warrants.
------------------------
Caution on warrants... i believe that any instrument that imposes a deadline on you is risky.
The nearer your instrument to its deadline, the more worried you will become.

i like warrants too but its considered super gambling. recently bought put warrant. Might wanna buy HSI put warrant, possible explosion going on there. On a small price momevent, you can win big, like easy 40%. However, u lose big too. They often say, u only get to lose how much you pay the warrant. Well, what if that "only" is only what you have, not so "only" then. Warrants have time decay, so the price will get cheaper and cheaper if all stays unchanged.
if u really interested, check out
http://www.dbwarrants.com.sg/
it allows u to calculate the warrant price for the underlying.
check out my site too for the following articles: look to the right, click Articles under Resources
i) Article 2:daily updates by Money Week on predictions of where the market should be heading next, (very interesting)
ii) Article 3: are you a small retail investor, read the sinister reason why yr broker wants you to trade often! at your detriment.
Hi cashiertan
Wow! Didnt know you are just 26 and already making money in the stock market. Impressed. Which trading school did you and your friend go to?
Thank you sohguanh. Interesting , something new to me....
It is better you go that brokerage website to take a look at CFD aka Contracts For Difference. You enter into a contract with the brokerage fimr on buying a certain stock share. You play with the stock price movement. In this case SGX fees are avoided since you only playing with the brokerage firm but you need to pay some charges to them as you keep that contract.
Once again go that brokerage firm website to take a look. I tink it is ideal playground for ppl loving to play contra. Since want to play contra, holding the shares in your possession is useless correct? So when you end the contract, you either win or pay the difference in the amount.

Thanks very much for the info.
So basically it seems CFD is just 'financed contra' play.

I am new to CFD and warrant too. AFAIK warrant is issued by the company and hence there is limited selection. Usually warrant (tied to the underlying share) are for those more expensive stock cuz it provides a means for investor to buy the share at a lower price if it favors the investor after the time period of the warrant expire. Check with your brokerage firm on how to play and buy warrants.
As for CFD goto Philip Capital website to take a look. Basically you play the game with the brokerage firm. No actual trading of shares but you play the game by viewing the selected stock price movement. You win money and not the shares itself. In fact I tink for CFD the minimum is 20% of the stock price. You can extend the time period which is better than warrant time expiry period but you incur some annual charge by the brokerage firm. And if say price of the stock drop to below that 20% you need to top it up to 20% I tink.
Warrant and CFD has a lot of similarities. Warrant provides a means to own a share while CFD do not. Warrant has time expiry period but CFD can extend the time period. In both of these games, you play BIG win BIG and of cuz you lose BIG too!

Warrants very risky lah... I know some friends who have lost lots of money in those things.
Hi sohguanh,
I believe your advice is good for contra players and those with little capital.
How does one play warrants? Is there a warrant for any stock we like, or is there only a limited selection. On the stock listings, I see only few stocks with warrants. On CFD, do we need to a minimum capital?
Where can we find articles/blog about warrants/CFD? Hope you can enlighten :)

If making profits is all singaporegal and the rest of the speculative investors care, may I suggest to play CFD and warrant instead? You use low capital to buy in LOTS and LOTS of shares.
It is a more suitable playground than normal playing of stocks $1 - $5 per share as it requires BIG CAPITAL. Not anyone has it except maybe singaporegal herself. Furthermore she claim she buy in and sell out in about a month which is way over the 3 days limit contra players play with.
With CFD and warrants a lot of contra playing tactics in normal stock play is incorporated with lesser restrictions. So maybe contra players should flood the CFD and warrant market instead? Leave the normal stock market play to other more sincere investors :)

Good afternoon Cashiertan Sir, I very impressed with you that you are so young and u are doing so well. Despite yr success, I salute you for being so humble and unselfessly guiding and sharing with the newbies and retirees (I am one of them) for the kopi money and livelihood. Such noble act from a young man like you is commendable. Pl continue yr good work and also to keep us all in check. I would like to request a favour from u. I would like my nieces and nephews to be financially free earlier rather than slogging till old like their parents. Therefore, I would like them to enrol in yr mentor's class whenever he is available. Appreciate it if you could email me at elizlow@pacific.net.sg or SMS me via Mobile 98241175 if yr mentor is ready to start a new class. Manys thanks for yr help. God bless.
Hi lewsh88,
I like your observation after reading Singaporegal's article...
"... I have not come across another person either in SJ or in the circle of people I know who are in stock trading, who is as good as she is. She just spend a few minutes going through charts and can quite accurately pick up stocks to buy and sell and win 7 out of 10 times. I've attended a course in TA at Terraseeds and even the instructor need some time to study and draw out a pattern to make informed decisions.."
But judging by her apparently immense popularity on this forum, one certainly tends to look to her for directions, particularly those without any inkling of TA principles, much like people look to ancient oracles for directions.
If her methods work so well and have made her good money, then I suppose her followers' trust in her have not been in vain.
By the way, personally I am inclined to have the same sentiments as you. Take care. ;)

Hi Cashiertan
May I know what course did you attend that make you have so much confident and knowledge . I am doing TA course shopping to see which course are relevant. Can you share ?
the main reason why many of you are losing money becoz u are trading w/o a plan. trading is like going to WAR. hhow to win w/o a plan and strategy? Emotions? dun ever trust it.. the only time emotion is good is when u close ur trade and take ur profits.
