SingTel CEO Lee Hsien Yang to step down, no reason given
SINGAPORE (AP) -- Lee Hsien Yang, the younger brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, plans to step down as group chief executive of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. once a successor is found, the company said Friday in a shock announcement.
"I believe that the time is right for me to convey to the SingTel Board my intention to relinquish my position as Group CEO, and for a search for a successor to be initiated. I have spent 12 wonderful years at SingTel," SingTel quoted Lee as saying in a short statement.
The company, known as SingTel, didn't give a reason for Lee's resignation.
Lee, 48, joined the company in April 1994 and has served as its CEO since May 1995.
SingTel Chairman Chumpol NaLamlieng said in a statement the company's Corporate Governance and Nominations Committee has been mandated to commence an internal and external global search process to search for Lee's successor.
Report did not state where he is going. Only said he has been in
this post long enough and should leave it to better people to run it.
