Emeritus Professor
14/03/2011
We don't need another university in Australia/Western Australia because the ones we have now are struggling to find enough intelligent students to fill their courses now. The standards have dropped significantly since Kim Beasley created a plethora of universities in 1987.
Australians have not become smarter - it is the universities lowering the standard whereby some students pass with performances so low that they would not gain admission to TAFE 30 years ago.
As for Dr Goh and AIUS, this concept was a failure from the start as it relied on overseas students who could not obtain admission to any university, to be fast-tracked into university places. The only way this could be achieved was also to lower the standards.
Some students passed their units at AIUS by paying lecturers to write the student's assignments. I worked there and knew the stories in the staff room.

What everyone else is thinking
Exclusive: PLANS for a university in Midland have stalled after Singapore-based Raffles Education Corporation confirmed it had withdrawn its application to establish a $100 million college at the railway workshops.Neither Raffles representatives nor WA Education Minister Liz Constable would discuss the reasons for withdrawing the plans that Raffles submitted last April.
Dr Constable said Raffles wrote to her on February 21 advising of its decision to withdraw.
The Reporter believes Premier  Colin Barnett had also received the letter.
Dr Constable said Raffles’ decision to withdraw came after the Government amended the Higher Education Act 2004 in 2009 so that Raffles could apply to establish a self-accrediting university college in Midland.
A Higher Education Advisory Committee (HEAC) chaired by Professor Richard Larkins, the former Vice Chancellor of Monash University, formed last year to consider the application.
HEAC concluded its report in August and provided a copy to Raffles, which then provided comment on it.
“Following consideration of Raffles’ comments on the report and after seeking appropriate advice, it was proposed to Raffles that the HEAC be convened to reconsider their comments,” Dr Constable said.
Raffles advised of its withdrawal after that, she said. But she added the Government would welcome any further applications for a Midland university.
“The Government would not want to discourage Raffles – or any other potential applicant – from reapplying at a later date.”
Midland MLA Michelle Roberts and East Metropolitan MLC Alyssa Hayden expressed their disappointment at news of the withdrawal.
“In my view the Government should get on with lobbying existing universities in WA for one of their schools to be on a Midland campus,” Mrs Roberts said.
She said the site near the future health campus provided an excellent opportunity for nursing or medical-related disciplines to have a Midland base.
Tourism and hospitality or agriculture were two other options.
Ms Hayden said she would continue to push for a university campus in Midland.
“I and the Barnett Government would like to see more opportunities for tertiary study in Midland and we are working hard to deliver on this,” she said.
“The Premier has a good knowledge of the situation ... and I  will be working with the Premier, the Minister for Education and the local community to try and get a good outcome.”

Hey Wake up, wake up ! I refer to your comment as well as the stock. Not delisted la ! So you must park your $$$ for good in this counter and let it   growth or die on its own. You must have true confident or lost hope, either way. I think it is going up, hopefully I am correct. Good Luck.

Thanks a lot man, was shocked when saw DL today. Feel better now. Thanks for the information guys, much appreciated :)
The shares consolidated 3 to 1 and has acquired a new code: NR7.  Your shares should be still there, but reduced by one third.  Price is up by 3 accordingly.  So your holdings should still be the same value roughly.  Right now, you should either sell off your odd lots or buy more to make up a nice round lot in NR7.  Check with your broker for details. And see SGX website for the Raffles Edu announcements about this since a month ago.
