if you hold good fundamental stocks, don't worry.

if you have paid your purchase with own money, don't worry.

if you are contra or margin players, big headache.

Hi singaporegal,

The reason why as it approaches afternoon, the morning gains are being wiped out is because Japanese and Korean markets close at 2 pm. So if they close near the lows, S'pore market will follow.

Indeed it was a day many will choose not to remember.

But the writings were on the wall, since the release of the US PPI and CPI numbers.

In fact TA wise, indicator's divergence wer present and could be see in some charts.

This is a great FREE site for it provides free charting. For sentiments gauge ... there are some blogs ( i do not own a blogsite) and forums (like MarketChatter ansd ShareInvestor) where some savvy and seasoned investor's thoughts can be read to help you make decisions.

Make use of the internet to learn about candle sticks and charts reading, for it will put you in good stead to read the markets and time your exits and entry.

I wish all in this forum happy trading days ahead. The rebound will come after inflation fears subside. Please remember that the next FED meet is on June 29th.

Cheers and Good Luck.

There were tons of artificial buying during the GE run up.

Tough luck for those who brought during that period. In fact, if you have always been active in the market, portfolios will still be positive and the STI's movement has little effect on most stocks.

Have fun guys..

Emailed to me from a dealer:
"In the current jittery market, there are still opportunities, especially in the form of safe, cash rich companies that have the potential for special dividends payout soon.
One such stock is Singapore Shipping Corp (SSC). It is is trading 8% below is NTA of $0.52 Out of which, more than $0.40 is in CASH (net of debt). So the current price is 83% backed by net cash.
During the current FY, SSC has sold some ships. There will very likely be a special dividend payout when they announce their final year result this coming week. It is estimated SSC would give a total dividend payout of 8-10cts as it has about S$175mln of net cash. Even after giving out 10cts of dividends ($43.6mln), it will still have more than S$131mln in cash to buy new ships and expand its business.
Last year, in May 05, it announced a dividend of 5cts and the share price jumped from $0.47 to $0.52 within a few days, before trending up further to $0.62.
As the announcement date approaches (this week), there should be a good run-up towards $0.55 level."
