Mainboard-listed industrial fishing company China Fishery Group says net profit rose 7.9% y-o-y to US$19.7 million ($25 million) for the first quarter of the financial year ending 28 September 2011 (1QFY2011).

Group revenue rose 13.4% to US$115.1 million from US$101.4 million in the same period last year.

Trawling and Peruvian fishmeal operations accounted for 90.6% and 9.4% of total revenue respectively.

In terms of profitability, gross profit rose 26.3% to US$42.7 million due to higher revenues and improvements in operational efficiency in both trawling and fishmeal operations as well as the increased revenue.

North Pacific trawling operations recorded revenues of US$68.9 million, down 20.7% from US$86.9 million last year, the result of lower selling prices due to an increase of global supply of the group’s major catch species.

The group’s Peruvian fishmeal operations recorded a decrease in sales by 18.5% to US$10.8 million from US$13.3 million mainly due to lower carry-over inventories available for sale.

China Fishery seeks global offering of new shares and dual primary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange

WRITTEN BY THE EDGE
FRIDAY, 17 DECEMBER 2010 22:13

Mainboard-listed industrial fishing company China Fishery Group (SGX: B0Z.SI) says it intends to undertake a global offering of new ordinary shares and seek a dual primary listing of all the ordinary shares of China Fishery on the Mainboard of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

China Fishery plans to allot and issue up to 175 million new ordinary shares with an over-allotment option of up to 25 million new shares.

Group Managing Director Ng Joo Siang says, “China Fishery is on the fast track for growth. The Proposed Global Offering will strengthen the group’s share capital base and will provide additional funding to improve the execution of our business strategy and future plans, as well as providing us with an additional channel to raise capital through gaining access to a wider range of institutional and retail investors.”

Ng adds, “China Fishery derives more than half its revenue from the PRC, with China-consumption being a key driver of the group’s growth. Listing in Hong Kong will allow China Fishery to expand and diversify its investor base by facilitating additional institutional and local retail investors in Hong Kong to participate in the equity of China Fishery and will also enable the group to enhance its profile in China/Asia and thereby further strengthening its business and customer base in the region. With the dual primary listing on SEHK, we believe that liquidity of China Fishery’s shares will improve.”

China Fishery the offer price will not be at a discount of more than 10% to the weighted average price for trades for the full market day on which the price is determined.

China Fishery Group Ltd

Result note - Upside from expansion/acquisitions - by Ho Choon Seng CFA

(CFG SP / CNFG.SI, OUTPERFORM - Upgraded, S$2.18 - Tgt. S$2.55, Consumer)

CFG's 4Q10 net profit of US$15.7m (+69% yoy) was below our expectations, forming 12% of our FY10 estimate and consensus. FY10 net profit of US$116.5m (+24% yoy) represents 87% of our FY10 estimate and consensus. The shortfall came from lower trawling revenue and a poorer-than-expected anchovy catch in Peru . Nevertheless, we raise our FY11-12 EPS estimates by 4-7% on improved operating assumptions and lower interest expense. On the back of our earnings upgrade and upside potential from expansion plans, our target price has been lifted to S$2.55, now based on 12.5x CY12 P/E, a 20% premium to the peer average of 10.2x, from S$1.75 (9.4x CY11 P/E). We also upgrade CFG to Outperform from Neutral, expecting catalysts include announcements of earnings-accretive expansion, and higher fish and/or fishmeal prices.

China Fishery now 6th largest fishmeal company in Peru after acquisition By Ephraim Seow | Posted: 18 May 2010 1617 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE: Mainboard-listed industrial fishing company China Fishery Group says it has become the sixth largest fishmeal company in Peru. This follows the acquisition of the entire share capital of a Peruvian fishing company Pesquera Alejandria for US$95 million. Alejandria owns a steam-dried fishmeal processing plant in Peru with a processing capacity of 40 metric tonnes of raw fish per hour. With this acquisition, the Group's share of the annual allowable catch of Peruvian Anchovy has reached 6.05 per cent in North of Peru and 10.91 per cent in South of Peru. China Fishery's managing director Ng Joo Siang says as the world's population continues to grow and fish enjoys rising popularity as a healthy source of protein, the group believes that the value of under-utilised fish species such as the Peruvian Anchovy will increase in time. He adds that this acquisition is in line with the group's strategy of seizing opportunities worldwide to gain access to under-utilised yet abundant fish species. Mr Ng added that it is also to achieve its dual aim of being a significant supplier of fish products to the fast-growing China market and a leading consolidator in the global fishing industry. - CNA/jy
