BBs mopping up hundreds and thousands of lots early in the morning to push the price up. Likely to see nice upsurge today

might not be a bad thing, contel is rather cash strapped now (issuing millions of convertible bonds), the last thing we want is for contel to waste cash or worse issue shares for unnecessary acquisition.

Hi ironside,

The company is raising funds by borrowing from ABN AMRO throught convertible bonds which will be due July 2010. According to their released announcement, the net proceeds from the issue of the Bonds will be used for core business expansion and for general corporate and working capital purposes. Basically, it will limit the risk should the stock price plummet, while limiting exposure to upside price movements of the stock. Personally I feel it is news on the good side since the issue price is $0.245 (ABN AMRO must have some confidence in this coy's potential) and it will add support to share price.

Others
- New shares: 50m
- Dilution of share capital for public: 72.22% -> 64.47% (assuming bonds are fully converted)

Yield to bondholders is around 8.5% pa. Not sure about the bank's rate. Anyway, even if borrowing from the bank is cheaper, banks might have some kind of injuctions or collaterals which may interfere with contel's current operations.

Hi level13,

can't speak on contel's behalf but some companies actually like BBs or some other funds to hold their shares to prove that they are of a certain quality. (Imagine if the major shareholders of the company is some tom or dick, wouldn't u question the quality of the company??) Of course, if contel can shed some light on this matter, that'll be all the more better.

Though cost of equity capital can be high, in contel's perspective, they are looking for some short term fundings which i believe is needed to fund the productions. If cash is what they need for the next couple of years, they'll be less willing to pay for the high interest cost. Besides, the conversions to ABN is subject to other T & Cs which means they might not be able to convert at 24.5cts.

For me, i'm holding on due to its long term FA. Smiley
