A good stock to hold for the medium term, around 6 months. Will announce another round of dividends next year. Pretty sleepy but stable income. It is still hovering near 52wks low. Low risk and high chance of capital gains.

Beginning this year, it hit about 1.20. So, everything is possible....but in this case, I doubt it in the foreseeable future.

It still has some problem areas......so, market will wait and see. Writer of that 2 Nov analysis prob trying to talk it up to unload.

BUY

Singapore Food Industries
Profit Warning

Current Price : S$0.93
Target (12-mth) : S$1.26*

Tepid 3Q06 results. Revenue for 3Q06 rose 7.6% to S$143m on improved overseas sales. However, net profit fell 20%, dragged down by the Singapore operation where sales and profit before tax fell 11% and 39% respectively. This fall was attributable to: a) poor pork and poultry trading, and b) continued weak supply of live pigs in abattoir and hog operation. The improvement in the top-line of the overseas operation (+23% yoy) did not bring about a corresponding increase in the bottom line due to increased cost pressures and margin erosion. In addition, 3Q is not the strongest quarter for the overseas operations.

Outlook. SFI warned that net profit for 2006 may be lower than 2005 because of the weak Singapore operation. Management expects the weak domestic performance improve after the pig supply normalises in the next quarter and better volume from its catering business. However, we are less sanguine about SFI's outlook in Singapore in the medium term given SFI's dominant position in the market and limited influence over its major customer in the catering business. We believe any earnings drivers for SFI would have to come from its overseas operations. The growth momentum in the UK business is likely to sustain with improving market conditions, more product listings and customers. In addition, the newly-acquired Farmhouse Fare Limited (Farmhouse) is expected to add another growth engine for SFI. But, Singapore operations still contribute around 60% of the profit, the growth engines from overseas operations are not sufficient to reverse the fortunes of the Group.

Valuation. Management has declared an interim dividend of 2.2cts/share less tax, similar to last year. With strong operating cash flows and a healthy balance sheet, SFI could maintain its dividend payout despite lower profits. We are reviewing our call, earnings forecasts and and target price.

This counter usually quite sleepy.

From FA point of view, it is financially quite stable but facing decrease in one of main core business...supply SAF meals due to 5 day week and lower birthrate => less NS men. Its implementation of its overseas investments (UK) met with some teething problems the past year or two......but seems to be on the mend (hopfully).

Div yield is usually quite good and traditionally pays interim div on 3rd Q results. Perhaps that is why it is showing some stirring in its price.
