mazliukt: shplayer essentially describe to you how shorting is being played. Your earlier concern on buy and then sell by T + 3 12pm is like contra tactics. Contra is buy the shares at T but before making payment at T + 3 due date you sell out to earn the difference.
So essentially in the SGX market there are two tactics at play. Shorting and Contra. Both tactics does not require you to fork out the share capital. You play on the difference amount in buy and sell and hope it is win and not loss. And usually you need to buy in 10,100,1000lots to magnify the difference else it is not worth it to short or contra 1, 2 lots as the comm and sgx etc fees will eat into your profits.

Thanks to synnexo and shplayer for sharing,
short looks very risky, so is hedging. I dont know when the market is going to up or down. I have learnt from earlier trading to have enough cash in hand before buying in case I have to hold for some time before selling.
So now I only buy when I have the cash to pay for it.

maxliuky,
Let me try to explain the term 'short' to you.
'Short' is a term used when you SELL shares you don't own in the hope to 'BUY' it back at a lower price after that.
Because you sold shares you don't own, you need to buy it back on the same trading day.......or take the risk as mentioned by synnexo.
Say, if you shorted (sold without owning) at 4.52 and if the price falls to 3.52 later in the day, you stand to make $1.00 per share less comm and charges.....but the risk is, if the share price does not fall enough to cover trading costs or worst ..the share price goes up.
In shorting, u have to buy back on the same trading day before closing to avoid penalities. But if u are choosing to hedge it, then u are taking a risk. The share price might shoot up & u are dead. Unless u are very sure it will sure plunge like a submarine.
In buying low & sell high, u must have the ability to hold. That is very important. Of course, u must set a threshold to cut lost. Usually, 5 - 8 %, its up to individual. Most importantly, don't be greedy.
Thanks synnexo,
This means to buy first and sells before T+3 12pm. I still dunno y to sell at lower price and makes a profit.
I better stick to buy low and sell high.

Agree totally with shplayer.
Moreover, in a shorting game u must remember every second counts. Its like a race against time especially nearer to the market closing time. Either u buy back at the asking price or hedge it at T+3 & T+4 before 12pm. Rather technical to comprehend. In short, if u choose to hedge it then the price @ T+3 closing & T+4 before 12pm is very crucial to u. SGX will take the price, whichever higher, plus 2 bids. So, if the price is much lower than your shorted price, then u earn. If not, then u lose. Of course, other penalties applies.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks shplayer,
I should buy and hold 3.52 then.

maxliukt,
Short means sell at 4.52 and buy back on same day at 3.52.
As a newbie, don't recommend you play this game.....it is very risky.
According to news, what supremo wanted is direct interest from govt and not a private investor. Not sure if he gets what he wanted.

Previous TP by Instituition was $4. My calculated TP was $4.32. At most it will be $4.75 if it is very bullish. But bcos of the sudden surge of 50+c, I let go at $4.22
My broker says some instituitions revalue it at $8 plus. True or not ?
