.INTERVIEW-DVD machine maker Anwell sees profit, sales surge
SINGAPORE, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Hong Kong-based Anwell Technologies
"In quarter three, we can expect a sharp jump in net profit because of the recovery in our gross profit margin," Anwell's Chief Executive Officer Franky Fan told Reuters in a telephone interview on Thursday.
The company made a net loss of HK$11 million ($1.4 million) in the third quarter of 2006 after issuing a profit warning, citing an industry-wide slump as demand for optical discs fell below the production capacity of DVD and CD makers, to which Anwell sells its machines.
Fan said the firm's full-year revenue is expected to triple as Anwell delivers most of its HK$274 million ($35.29 million) order book by the end of the year.
Anwell, which has a market cap of $67 million, posted a 34 percent decline in FY2006 sales to HK$178 million and a net loss of HK$57 million for the period, hammered by "intensive price competition as a result of the sluggish market demand condition", the firm said in its financial statement.
