down current for MR is strong now! lookslike opportunity to buy dirt cheap is coming soon!
India GDP set to quadruple in next decade
By Chris Howells | Posted: 14 April 2010 0013 hrs
SINGAPORE: India's financial services, infrastructure
and retail markets are ripe for foreign investments
because they are poised for good growth, according to
two prominent Indian business leaders, who spoke at an
investment conference in Singapore on Tuesday.
India's GDP is set to quadruple in the next 10 years,
driven by increasing household savings, investments and
consumption.
India's vast economy has been doing relatively well
despite the global crisis last year, and it is set to
accelerate in the years ahead.
With rising affluence and savings in the population, the
financial services sector may grow 16 to 18 per cent in
the next 10 years, according to Edelweiss, the country's
third largest brokerage.
Private consumption in areas such as healthcare, entertainment and automobiles is seen growing at
six per cent or more in the next decade.
Household savings have nearly quadrupled to US$300 billion in the last 10 years, and will likely
balloon to US$1 trillion by 2020.
"Increasingly, we are finding a lot of retail customers wanting alternative ways of investing into
corporate bonds, equities, structured products and there is a need to channel savings into a portfolio
of assets rather than keeping it the bank," said Rashesh Shah, chairman and chief executive officer of
Edelweiss.
The strong growth in the mobile telecoms sector has also helped companies like Spice expand.
"We are looking at 100 per cent growth in India," said B.K. Modi, chairman of Spice Group. "And if I
add growth in acquiring companies, we are talking three times growth, because mobile predominantly
was with companies coming from developing countries. The whole market is growing, but we'll be
growing faster, we are providing products and services."
The company is also looking to manufacture mobile phones in India this year.
It currently makes handsets in Southeast Asia to be shipped to India.
OMG, 3 digitd coming.
