Friend starlene, your instincts are good about GP Hotels and you should dump it at 27.5 cents.  I sold mine at 27.5 cents after the AGM which was not impressive. AGM was held in the attic floor of Fragrace Building and food coupons were issued to shareholders for plastic packet of food and bottled water.   Poor show of disrespect for shareholders who are investors and not budget backpacker tourists.

Singapore hotels' average occupancy rate dipped to just 85%
As RevPAR dropped 3.1% to S$215.
According to OCBC Investment Research, preliminary data from the STB supports what it has been saying since Dec: 1Q13 performance for the sector will likely be weak.
OCBC noted that on a YoY basis, gross lettings for 2M13 fell 4.7% to 1.70m room nights. Room revenue declined 7.2% YoY to S$427.8m. The average occupancy rate fell 0.4% YoY to 85% and the average room rate contracted 2.7% YoY to S$252.20. These changes caused RevPAR to fall 3.1% YoY to S$215.00.
Here's more:
We have analyzed the relationship between the YoY change in average RevPAR and YoY change in average tourism receipts per visitor arrival for 2001-2012. In general, the signs of both are the same for the same year, with change in RevPAR being of larger magnitude than the change in average tourism receipts.
2012 was an exception, where average tourism receipts per visitor fell ~5.5% YoY while RevPAR grew 5.7% YoY. We believe RevPAR numbers were positively skewed by the good performance of the IRs’ hotels.
For 2013, STB is targeting 14.8m-15.5m visitor arrivals (+2.9% to +7.7% YoY) and tourism receipts of S$23.5b-24.5b (+2.2% to +6.5% YoY). The targets imply that average tourism receipts per visitor may fall by 1% YoY. This further supports our cautious view regarding RevPAR performance in 2013.

Luxury hotels’ RevPAR in Jan was roughly flat YoY, but RevPAR in Feb 2013 fell a whopping 28% YoY. We attribute this at least partiallyto Chinese New Year falling in Feb instead of Jan this year, pushing back the start of pickup in business travel. For 2M13, the subsectors’ RevPARs performed as follows:
Economy (-0.8%), Mid-tier (-1.4%), Upscale (-3.6%) and Luxury (-14.6%).
Still holding 50 lot dun know should hold or sell????????????

Why is there no interest in this counter?
Biz Times today reported Koh Wee Meng bought 1 mil Fragrance at 26cts on 25 Mar..he has 4.918billion shares or 73.25% of issued capital and indirect interest 734.6mil shares or 10.94%..wow he controls about 84% of total shares in Fragrance-to prevent it for dropping after so many rounds of bonus issues..he looks like his brother Koh Wee Seng is applying same strategy to Aspial-whose world class lt has sold well the Urban Vista...hope Aspial moves up higher soon ..Aspial much less shares than Fragrance, latter has even more shares than Capital land & Keppel Corp combined, that's why difficult to move...but for GP Hotel still has upside if they declared bonus issue-matter of time only..see Maxi Cash first year of ipo already declared1 for 5 and next financial year another 1 for 5
Yiming2000..this is for u

Game not over yet,I believe in Rowsley and P.L and when the trading curb I seized to buy back Rowsley 39-41cts .When buying RSP Architects Planners & Engineers & a 9.23 hectare land in Iskander is completed with all regulatory and shareholders'approval obtainbed,Rowsley will reward 2 free warrants for every 1 existing share held, each warrant exercise price at 18cts,so don't expect Rowsley to drop back to below 18cts or even unlikley ,30cts again.
I hve seen P.L worked b4 esp with his generosity he even rewarded his staff with luxurious cars and channel substantial biz from his Indonesian & institutional sales thru his staff who worked for him duing the Bull Run in 1993 and the cheques in bank each day thru his staff in the bank when I was a A.M with this Malaysian bank..unlike the collaboration with the Chinese PRC co over solar power which was aborted, this time will go thru esp the 2 P.Ms from both countries have given their blessings under a win-win situation..Rowslwy will worth at least a $1 if you're prepared to hold and ignore the vagaries

Thks Yiming 2000 for sharing at AGM-I hve G.P hotels 24.5,25,26 and 27cts may sell even at 27.5cts while the balance may sell after ex dividend.Nothing fantastic about this co-limited upside and the Koh family is supporting,U need them to declare bonus issues maybe next year before this stock can soar, just like Fragrance,Aspial and Maxi-cash-I can almost predict their style of operating-buy to support their own shares and after it stablished declared constant bonus( 1for 1 or 1 for 5,etc) to boost the shares,U see Fragrance has now > shares than keppel Corp and/or Capital land after so many rounds of bonus issue, sometimes within one financial year also bonus issue,,in theory no benefits but sometimes mkt inefficient, shares cum bonus normally shot up or u sell after ex-bonus and higher than theoretical ex-bonus price,we still make $$$..having been making many rounds especially on Fragrance,Aspial and recently on Maxi-cash..I am completely out on these few counters, but still holding on to my GP Hotels and may sell some 27.5cts and above without the dividends too..Hol d on to yr ChinaFish after 1-2 years will cross 80cts-$1...in 2007 I bought a lot and after 1 for 2 stocksplit..wow sold the bulk at $1.23...so sometimes U need to know the pattern of trading of certain stocks and bank big on these good stocks..as for speculative Rowsley,Equation WE Holdings, etc paly with yr profits..just take never hesistate too long esp those with no fundamentals |

Friend Brenocav, I attended AGM this morning. Chairman Koh owns (majority) controlling lion share of GPH. I saw his Jaguar parked downstairs at Fragrance Building.
You are right about the Annual Report: nothing great. Additionally, the high debt level is also an issue even if manageable (provided nothing bad happens). The only safety factor for us is that Mr Koh's neck (his net worth) is tied to GPH. He has also bought an additional 15.5 million shares two months ago.

Also did anyone look at the annual report? I glanced over it briefly...didn't seem so great - Really big increase in term loans year to year.

any opinions?  |

hey Yiming...Yeah I am vested - Just not a very liquid stock I guess, I'm just hanging on for until next month, I'll probably take my cash out after it goes ex-div.

Hopefully we can get a couple cents before then.

Just gotta let the market decide I guess.

Yeah since the commission is flat it's better to buy as much as you can so that brokerage doesn't eat your profits as much.

Friend brenocav, thanks for the info on minimum trading charges.
I  have 2 lots at 0.27. I think I will buy another 2 more lots at 0.27 tomorrow. I wonder if friend starlene is vested. She has good entry point instincts. I don't see much downside as IPO price was 0.26. Net profit is nearly 30%. And I don't think OCBC is right about 2013 dividend of only 0.6%. I think they will maintain the 5-6% dividend as  in the past. Only worry is its gearing of 50% which is pretty high debt level.
Let's hope it goes up to 0.33 after I buy.   |

Why is there no interest in this counter? I am still holding back from buying more. Lots of sellers coming out? Why?

Yeah you've got a point...This counter isn't very volatile - don't really see a risk in parking some cash here for a bit longer.

Dividend is pretty good... equivalent to  yield of  about 3.6% much better than keeping money in the bank.  Plus capital appreciation

Hi Yiming2000, Where have you been trading?

Most brokerage in Singapore is $25min each way. Not like in the US where they only pay around $4 per transaction!

Hey guys, I just bought 10000 shares of GP Hotel at 0.27 and was charged a whopping commission of $28.14 by OCBC. Isn't that a bit high? What are the usual brokerage rates you guys pay? |

You can use DBS Vickers  cash up front min $18 which around $20.63.
The iocbc  has the calculator, it even shows you the breakeven sell price.
