Noble orders jack-up pair at Jurong
Noble Corporation has exercised options with Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine to build two new harsh-environment shallow-water drilling rigs for $235 million apiece, bringing the total it has under construction to four, the company said today.
News wires    28 March 2011 14:16 GMT
The new jack-up rigs are expected to be delivered by Sembcorp's Jurong Shipyard in the third quarter of 2013 and first quarter of 2014.
Noble still has options for two additional units that must be exercised by the end of this year.
The vessels will have the capability to operate in water depths up to 400 feet and drill to depths of 30,000 feet, Reuters reported.
Earlier this month, Noble said it had landed contracts for six shallow-water rigs off the coast of Mexico, including four that had been idled in the Gulf of Mexico because of lack of work.
Noble adds to jack-up order
Rig contractor Noble has exercised options with Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine for the construction of two jack-up rigs at a cost of $427.6 million.
Upstream staff      29 March 2011 02:23 GMT
The options were exercised as part of a deal struck in December when Noble ordered two rigs from Sembcorp’s subsidiary Jurong Shipyard, with options for up to four additional rigs.
The rigs will be based on the same Friede & Goldman JU3000N-design as the previous order and be able to operate in harsh environments in water depths of up to 400 feet and be capable of drilling to a depth of 30,000 feet.
Sembcorp said the designs enlarged hull also allowed for a more ergonomic accommodation layout, increased deck space and the strategic placement of equipment for improved efficiency and safety during operations.
“We are delighted that Noble has chosen to exercise two of the four rig options at this opportune time as demand for efficient and high-specification premium rigs is expected to continue,” senior general manager of Jurong’s offshore division, Don Lee, said.
The additional rigs are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2013 and first quarter of 2014, while the previously ordered jack-ups are due to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2012 and the second quarter of 2013.
Noble still has options for two additional units that must be exercised by the end of this year.

if noble exercise all the options, So what the problem, the directors  just diversified the construction progress into sub contractor yard under sembcorp marine business core.  It is so simple to be a director than being  a analyst.
I just wondering why the " new yard" needs 20 years to complete the four phases. One Thinky is becos sembcorp mighte be a GREEN HORN on construction than marine

just got to continue makan all contracts for new yard opening ceremony

KLKC JSPL final kanna Busy liao. As the " art kee tech" always says, it is easier to build a structure of same design and thus cut down on  the expenses becos, it like producing a moulding products.

Less time spent for art kee alternation....

Sembcorp Marine has clinched a contract to build two more premium jackup rigs for a subsidiary of offshore drilling contractor Noble Corp for US$427.6m. The two new turnkey units are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014. On completion, the rigs will be able to operate in waters 400 feet deep and drill to depths of 30,000 feet. These orders bring SMM’s YTD order wins (ex ship repair) to S$1.5bn, vs our full year assumption of S$5bn. SMM still has 8 outstanding jackup options worth an estimated US$1.6bn. Maintain Buy, TP: S$6.63.

SembCorp Marine. Maintain OUTPERFORM with higher TP of S$6.90 (from S$6.3. Noble has exercised two of its four options with SMM for high-spec jackups. Value for the two orders is at US$427.6m, bringing YTD orders to S$1.5bn. Keep order target of S$10.8bn and earnings estimates for FY11-13, but hike TP to S$6.90, in view of stronger order momentum.

Sembcorp Marine: Noble exercises two jack-up rig options
Summary: Sembcorp Marine (SMM) announced that its subsidiary, Jurong Shipyard, has signed two turnkey contracts worth a total of US$427.6m to build two jack-up rigs for a subsidiary of Noble Corporation. Recall that the latter had awarded two rig contracts to SMM in Dec last year with options for four more. Noble Corp has now decided to exercise two out of the four options. Scheduled for delivery in 3Q13 and 1Q14, these units will be based on the same design and specification as the two Friede & Goldman JU3000N units ordered earlier. However, the price tag is about 7% higher, likely due to higher equipment costs and decreasing yard slots. With increasing rig prices, SMM’s customers may face increasing pressure to exercise their options earlier rather than later. Maintain BUY with fair value estimate of S$6.17 on SMM.

Restricted Shares
Shares that have limited voting rights or in some cases, no voting rights. These shares participate in a company's earnings and assets in liquidation as common shares do and are sometimes referred to as restricted common shares. Restricted shares may not command the same market price as voting common shares of the same company since they do not have voting rights.
Common Stock or Common Shares
Securities which represent ownership in a company and carry voting privileges. Common shareholders may be paid dividends but only after preferred shareholders are paid. Common shareholders are last in line after creditors, debt holders and preferred shareholders to claim any of a company's assets in the event of liquidation.
Performance Shares
The goal of performance shares is to tie managers to the interests of shareholders. Their  goal is similar to employee stock-option plans (ESOP), as they provide an explicit incentive for management to focus their efforts on maximizing shareholder value.
Note  that in the case of performance shares, the manager receives the shares as compensation for meeting targets, as opposed to stock-option plans where employees receive stock options as part of their usual compensation package.
Preferred Stocks or Shares
A class of stock that entitles the owners to a stated dollar value per share in liquidation (paid after bondholders) and a fixed dividend paid ahead of the company's common shares. Preferred shares usually only have voting rights when a stated number of dividends have been missed. Preferred shares are generally considered income investments.
