I would be very glad to get the statistic on the
percentage of ppl win the the casino.
Well, my guess is maybe .................
the truth is economics - money-in-circulation changing hands ..
sometimes you win, sometimes you lose....
MM Lee has to give general advice to the public...the govt vehicles also bet on their investment and lost..
I like this saying very much.
THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE WHOLE TRUTH.

MM Lee said "I don't understand why they want to gamble.
THEY DEFINITELY WILL NOT WIN! They feel their luck
is good during the festive season. In the end? On the first day,
the House earned $3.5 million. The second day, the House earned
$3.7 million. The moral of the story is :DON,T GAMBLE. THEY
DEFINITELY WILL NOT WIN."

according to LKY in ST today, the house earned 3.5m on the 1st Day of operation and 3.7m on the second day! So, it's up to u to interpret how this reflects its potential. Agree that competition will be fierce once Marina Sands opens its door. (they must be hurrying everyone to try to open as early as possible seeing RWS's roaring biz.) |

let's make some coffee money today....hehe
UK operations are costlier than Singapore's cos of high taxes compared to here (govt charges lower tax but got other revenue through levy). I remembered getting a free dinner in London just watching some low betting friends play and they only stayed for less than 2 hours! We are cheapstakes :). UK gambling clubs are small halls and not the big casinos that you see in LV or Macau. The room was quite empty too. So, that 40+ casinos in UK they have combined cannot be an accurate reflection for RWS future. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you or I say, the first quarter report will make it clearer but the true picture will come from its first year's report. That will convince the nay sayers or douse the confidence of a longist.

Nobody is disputing the casino revenue. Genting racked in over 1.5 billion worth of revenue in the last 3 years. But their gross margins were very low. In 2009, their gross margin was only 13%. This means that for every dollar won on the gambling table, only 13 cents makes it back to the head office. After deducting admin expense, depreciation, interest expense, tax etc, they were left with a hefty loss. The question is what will their margins be in RWS. I think running such a glitzy casino in Singapore must be very expensive. Their revenue from the past 3 days was 40 million but with a gross margin of 20%, their gross profit is only 8 million. After taking into account depreciation, admin expense, tax, interest expenses, how much will be left. After consolidating with their loss-making UK operations, what will be left ?

Asian esp Chinese gamblers are fiercer than the English. See LVS major profits now coming from their Macau operations so fast?! Remember they recoup their investment in their first casino in Macau in less than 6 months of operation!!! That tells you something about gamblers around here. In the west, they have to give free food and drinks to entice them to stay and gamble (in small bets some more) whereas here, no food or drinks, they still come in droves eg, Genting Highlands. Do you think this could be a valid and probable reason why they aren't making money in UK?

back from "pai tian gong"... wow so many postings liao...buy a little to support the vision of singapore govt.... so many things at stake if the two IR failed to remake singapore economy,..the govt will have less tax to collect if every year Genting Singapore, crown jewel will to lose money.... sure make money in the first 2-3 years....
after that, maybe people will be attracted to South Korea Universal Studio...by then probably, the two IR will collaborate to market the two IR as 2-in-1....
UK economy is in deep shit..with some restructuring, the profit may return..

Casinos may not be as profitable as one think in the long run as it has become common and no longer spectacular...due to the sprouting of new casinos over the region...however...the current price of Genting SP is low...it is with great confidence that Genting SP is a $3 stock.
I don think that Chinese gambler are more fiercer than the English.
A lot of superstar, sport superstar, they are gambler too.
LVS can recoup their investment in just 6 months, but is macau investment as much as SGD8 billion?
Also please remember, operation cost here is higher than Macau.

If so simple, why are they losing so much money despite running 43 casinos in the UK ?
Running a casino in a glitzy resort isn't cheap and easy.

When it comes to treating their customers right, the casino is the best in this dept. I believe this air charter with Tiger Air is more for the junket or gambling tour operators who fly in busloads of gamblers from overseas eg, China, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Indonesia, etc. These tourists will gamble more than just SGD100-200 each. As for their whales, they will know who they are and accord them the VIP treatment they expect, from air travel to rooms, f&b, entertainment (shows, etc) for not just themselves but their family and sometimes friends as well. These whales can be anybody who can place big bets. They don't have to be rich and famous eg, remember that F&N guy who is now in prison? The money these whales bet is way more than enough to cover their rooms and whatever they use from the casino and they are the cream of the casino (the fat margins). But the small timers collectively is the bread and butter of the casino (cover running costs and also small margin). The casino cannot survive without the small bettors and will look lifeless. Whales do not come by as often as these small fish.

Seldom see this lot of short interest in this particular stock. As I see it, there are three potential reasons to short Genting. One, you are trying to hedge your ideal price. Two, you just want to follow the crowd. Or three, you believe there is a fundamental problem with Genting' business that cannot be fixed....
For me... very simple...is reason 2, if u cannot beat them, join them!...
This stock will be like the chip on the gambling table.
Sure lose.
Sell out.
The fury is over. Be realistic.
SMRT will stood a better chance to beat it over next 3 years,
2009 financial year ended with SGD 277 million lost
2010 lost?
many retail investors were burnt badly before CNY -- betting on rally after opening (coffee shop talks said so and so lost up to 100k in contra sell-off after CNY..
will continue to buy up to 200lots...now only 20 lots (95cts and 90cts) ..cheers.
bet he shorted this counter la

Resorts World Sentosa and Tiger Airways Singapore have announced plans for a chartered aircraft dedicated to flying overseas guests to Singapore’s first integrated resort.
The aircraft will operate as a chartered service for Resorts World Sentosa, transporting guests between Singapore and other cities around the region.
Under the agreement, Resorts World Sentosa will take over the lease of the aircraft.
The plane will ply Tiger Airways’ existing region—wide network.
The service is expected to be offered later this year.
In a statement, Tiger Airways said guests can expect a seamless journey that would span air—travel followed by land transfers to Resorts World Sentosa.
Rosalynn Tay, managing director, Tiger Airways Singapore, said: "We are proud to partner Resorts World Sentosa in bringing more visitors to Singapore. This is a real alliance with real benefits to both partners.
"While Tiger Airways gets a new revenue stream and reduced costs, Resorts World Sentosa gets a cost—effective solution to bringing more customers to Singapore’s most exciting new destination."
She added: "Having grown from a young cub to a big strong cat, it is time Tiger Airways Singapore has its own cub to add strength and joy to the Tiger family. Asia has many other untapped opportunities, and we look forward to creating more innovative ways to grow our paw prints in the Year of the Tiger."
Liang Wern Ling, Director of Destination Sales, Resorts World Sentosa, said: "We promised Singapore that Resorts World Sentosa will bring tourism to the country and reinvent its tourism landscape. We are creating our own airline with this first aircraft, which shows our commitment to bringing the economic benefits to Singapore." — CNA/ms

Watch this and read all the interesting comments on the levy thing.....
Actually, the Govt should rename the term "levy" to "Donation" to allow Singaporeans to decide to donate the $100 to any listed charity in Singapore, eg. NKF, Renci Hospital, Children Cancer Foundations, Homes for the Elderly, Dover Hospic Beyond Social Services....
So while we are gambling away our hard-earned money, at least, we set aside $100 for the under-privelege people...
