New Singapore laws are being drawn up to reduce Singapore's dependence on sand and granite.

The aim is to halve the use of concrete in construction projects within the next five years.

Carrots such as quicker clearance for projects which use sustainable construction material such as steel, dry walls, glass and metal cladding, are being offered as part of the new Sustainable Construction Masterplan, said a report in The Straits Times today.
