SIA’s recent decline is buying opportunity - UOB KayHian

The recent fall in Singapore Airlines’ (C6L.SG) stock prices presents a rare buying opportunity as the stock offers an attractive dividend yield, UOB KayHian says.

The house maintains its Buy rating with an unchanged target of $15.90. “At this level, the stock offers a yield of 6.3% (with an estimated dividend payout of $0.90), the highest in 3 years,” UOB says.

Singapore Airlines has previously shown it can grow its net profit despite weak traffic growth, the house says, adding the carrier is also less vulnerable to rising fuel prices compared to other airlines. The stock is down 1.7% at $14.10.

Credit Suisse recommends BUY, Target Price at $18.50

Airlines – concerns on cargo slowdown overdone

There have been a few market concerns on slowing airfreight

demand, but October and November demand from various airlines

and airports in the region has rebounded strongly, with utilisation also

recovering, indicating a pick-up in activities. October and November

Incheon International Airport cargo traffic rebounded from the average

3Q levels. CX, SIA, EVA and CAL aggregated October cargo traffic

also rebounded 11% to a historical high.

Moreover, we saw cargo load factors rebounding strongly by an

average of 4% for Asian airlines mentioned above, which are high by

historical standards. Cargo yields appear to be stabilising, as reported

by Taiwanese airlines. Given that 4Q is seasonally stronger for

airfreight and the positive macro environment mentioned in previous

section, we believe cargo demand will remain robust. We also note

that the current level of global PMI manufacturing new order index

could imply double-digit Asian airfreight traffic growth in the next few

months. We like CX, Asiana, Thai Airways, SIA, EVA and AirAsia

Make love more, don't make more enemies

SIA kept at Overweight by HSBC; Sector top pick

WRITTEN BY DOW JONES & CO, INC
TUESDAY, 07 DECEMBER 2010 11:25

HSBC says Singapore Airlines (C6L.SG) one of top picks among Asian conglomerates, transport stocks, as remains “positive on passenger driven airlines, hotels and conglomerates leveraged to Asian consumption.”

Rates SIA at Overweight with $19.00 target; “we forecast our Asian airline coverage will generate an aggregate 2010 recurring profit of US$6.8 billion ($8.9 billion), a sharp rebound from recurring losses in 2009. The earnings recovery has been driven by a strong pick-up in passenger and cargo demand which has boosted load factors and yields.”

Adds, while airline outlook remains good, tips 2011 profit growth will stall, largely as expects cargo profit to fall on year; but says SIA more passenger focused, has significant net cash balances, is best value Asian airline.

Notes, at target SIA would trade at 12x FY12E P/E, 1.4x P/BV, provide FY12E dividend yield of 5%; “compelling value.” Shares off 0.3% at $15.78.

SIA, SilkAir raise fuel surcharge

SINGAPORE

For instance, the surcharge for economy-class tickets for flights between Singapore and a Southeast Asian destination will now be US$25, while the surcharge for firstclass tickets to fly between Singapore and Europe will be US$126.

SIA said the hike was because of a “sustained escalation” in the price of jet fuel in recent months.

The increase in the surcharge is the first since June 2008. Since then, there have been three revisions to reduce it. Adding it will continue to “closely monitor the price of fuel and keep surcharges under constant review”, SIA said the adjustments will “offer only partial relief from the higher operating costs arising from increases in the price of jet fuel”.

TO  RECOUP  the  fInes    ? ? ? ?— It will be more expensive to fly Singapore Airlines (SIA) and SilkAir, Both carriers are increasing fuel surcharges for tickets issued from today by between US$3 ($3.95) and US$25, depending on the distance and class of travel.
