today's BT...
Hyflux bags two projects in China worth 237m yuan

WATER treatment specialist Hyflux Ltd has secured new projects worth about 237 million yuan (S$47.8 million) in China.

Its fully-owned subsidiary Newspring Utility has been given a 28-year concession in Xiajin, Shandong Province, to design, construct, operate and maintain a 50,000 cubic metre per day potable water-treatment plant. The estimated project value is 102 million yuan and the plant is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Newspring has been granted the first right to negotiate for extending the concession upon its expiry.

Over in Shuangjie, a town in Beichen District in Tianjin City, the district has granted Newspring a 30-year concession to design, construct, build, operate and maintain a 50,000 cubic metre per day waste water-treatment plant that has a water recycling capability to produce up to 30,000 cubic metres per day of recycled water.

The estimated project value is 135 million yuan and the project is slated for completion by early 2009. Again, Newspring has the first right to negotiate for the extension of the concession agreement upon its expiry.

With the latest two projects, the group has now under operation and construction 22 municipal projects in China. 'These projects will be funded by Hyflux Group from its existing resources and are not expected to have a material financial impact for the current financial year,' Hyflux said.

Hyflux's first-quarter earnings plunged 87 per cent to $1.4 million, as a lag time between the signing and execution of industrial projects contributed to a 60 per cent fall in revenue to $13.4 million.

pcxavi, if you're already so much in the money, then hold.  Technicals still look good currently.

kccher, Fed looks to be bottoming out, some rumors surrounding this counter, though nothing is seen yet.  Should be more upside, fundamentally sound company, technical upside is there.  Mid-term hold.  Not my type of trade for now.

It's going to be a beautiful day at least for today.  Confirmation that the US is alright will require us to look into how it does for today.  DJI up 90 points to 13427.  DJI current support still at the 13300 to 13265 levels, which at some point last night both supports were breached for a while but it stayed up.  DJT up 53 points to 5129.

GlenZen, you may want to consider selling it if it hits your buy price or with small profit.  Depends on the price action.  Your call.

Soujourner, thanks for helping out.

Synnexo and Ck2236, I've started going lean and nimble about a week ago, but still holding on to some mid-term counters and some smaller positions.  Will try to update on this.

Glenzen, I don't particularly like the way Asti's looking.  What levels are you vested in?

Ed and Pcxavi, thanks for the updates!

Cyjjerry, we cannot make a broad statement like this.  Some are being accumulated, some aren't.

I mentioned about some counters that would continue running today, they were TCIL and  Portek.  I wouldn't advise going in at this stage till further confirmation.

Will look at UOB Kay Hian tomorrow, as suggested by Ed.  Thanks.

DJI update:  13300 currently broken, next critical level is 13265.

Positive news from BT... hopefully will spur the market tomorrow.

June 27, 2007, 5.01 pm (Singapore time)
Credit Suisse tips strong 8.6% growth for Asia in 2007

SINGAPORE - Growth in Asia excluding Japan is projected at a strong 8.6 per cent in 2007, powered principally by China's turbo-charged economic engine, Swiss investment bank Credit Suisse said on Wednesday.

A projected pickup in US consumer spending and Japanese retail sales in the second half will bolster demand for Asian exports, the bank's regional director for Asia economics, Sailesh Jha, said.

According to Mr Jha, Asia's export-led economies are still significantly dependent on the US market as well as on Japan, the world's largest and second-largest economies respectively, he said at a media briefing.

'If you believe our story of pickup in US growth and essentially a pickup in Japan's growth primarily on the consumer spending side, what we find is the tightest correlation in terms of the region's exports is basically with US retail sales and Japanese retail sales.

'So with this view of recovery in both the US and Japanese retail sales, we are fairly optimistic on the outlook for Asian exports,' he said.

The region's projected strong growth will be spearheaded by China where the economy is tipped to accelerate to 11.2 per cent, the Swiss investment bank said in a report released to the media.

'Basically all engines are firing in China... it's kind of like in turbo mode,' said Mr Jha.

For the rest of the region, Indonesia's economy is tipped to grow 6.5 per cent this year, Singapore at 7.0 per cent, Vietnam at 9.0 per cent, Malaysia at 6.0 per cent and Thailand at 4.0 per cent, the bank's report said.

Credit Suisse said of Thailand: 'The near term outlook for growth and domestic demand is weak but a strong recovery is possible in 2008.' It expects Thai growth in 2008 to accelerate to 5.8 per cent. -- AFP
