Just my 2 cents: It seems to me that Lianbeng is more focused on properties development. Based on its properties development alone, I think they will have many good years ahead. The IR project is just a bonus to them!
Paper loss is inevitable at some point of time as some are profit-taking. Give it 2 weeks and I believe there will be more to come. Cheers!
Is there any possibility that the contract be awarded to two bidders instead of one due to constraints in resources?
Bids for the IR project very low. Even have Malaysian contenders if I'm not wrong. Hopefully the owners have the sense to award to contractors with good solid ground knowledge of the area and with good solid construction track record. Another ticker to look into will be Yongnam, they are visible in most of the major projects in Singapore.
Lian Beng has the advantage of knowing the ground conditions well at Marina Bay as it was the first BCA A1 main contractor to clinch a contract with Las Vegas Sands. CIMB understand that it is one of 2 contenders for the casino tower and museum contract, worth over $500m. Lian Beng's current outstanding orders stand at $628m, of which $575m were secured in '07.
CIMB are raising their forecasts by 31-100% for FY08-10 as they believe Lian Beng stands a better-than-average chance of clinching the casino/museum contract. As an integrated construction stock, Lian Beng could trade up to 15x CY08 P/E (unchanged basis), or a potential target price of $1.14. Maintain Outperform, raising target price to $1.14 from $0.89.
Was a good buying opportunity when some profit-take this afternoon.
Definitely a strong vote of confidence to see the intense buying up at 0.76. Quite large transaction being done there too.
Lets hold LB tight and await for the upcoming tender result.

I loaded up another 100 lots.
I think LB will edge up even higher tomorrow.
If my calculation doesnt fail me, tomorrow _afternoon_ should be the deadline for short-ists to cover back (for those who shot it at 0.68 last week).
As such, afternoon time will gap up even higher.

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Construction firms Lian Beng Group Ltd. (L03.SG) and Koh Brothers Group Ltd. (K75.SG) have won a joint tender to build the casino tower and museum of Las Vegas Sands Corp.''s (LVS) casino-resort in Singapore, a person with knowledge of the matter said Thursday.
"The contract is worth a few hundred million (dollars)," the person, who declined to be named, told Dow Jones Newswires.
"The tender closed last month and the outcome will be known in two, three weeks'' time," he said.
CIMB analyst Lawrence Lye said in a note Thursday that Lian Beng is one of two contenders for the casino tower and museum contract, which could be worth at least S$500 million.
"Lian Beng Group has the advantage of knowing the ground conditions well at Marina Bay," Lye said.
The company clinched a S$58.5 million contract in August to build the basement of Sands'' Singapore casino-resort hotel.
Officials from both companies could not be immediately reached for comment.
The US$3.6 billion casino-resort opens in 2010.

History: Last time when placement came into the trading on the 2nd Oct, Beng moved up to a 3 cents gain. Within 2 days, it went up by another 8 cents. And another 2 more cents up by 5th Oct. So in 3 days, 13 cents gain or about 27% .. not bad..
Days to watch: 14th Dec (Friday) and/or 17th Dec (Monday) and onwards.. Not to forget the institutional interest in this counter and lucrative IR job forthcoming.
