The topic of how and when to cut loss can be complicated and it depends on alot of factors and experience. But to keep things simple, especially if one is new to trading or investing, as a general rule of thumb, do cut loss or lock profits when the price has fallen below a strong support with high volume. Especially if the price does not rise back to or above the support the next day, very high chance the price will drop further. =)

yeah I do agree that emotion is the most impt thing in trading. handle it well and you can turn a losing trade to a winning trade, handling it incorrectly, and you will suffer

True, true, true. I am holding so many counters, but I have been saying that I don't have any position now. Why? Because I really don't have eyes to see those counters anymore. In fact, that day just saw got one counter, very very near to half of the price that I bought it. Didn't cut earlier, and many of them already went down so low, so really feel just leave them there. You are right, I felt that and was told that too, as long as you don't tell it, it is still not considered loss. I think this is nothing but trying to comfort oneself.

I do agree that when comes to emotion,  it is not easy to handle. It really need years of moulding before one can be more stable emotionally.  Honestly, if there is no emotion involves also jialat. Why? Those people who bought and hold a counter for a long term. When a counter  started to move down, they are not kan chiong because they think as long  never sell consider never lose money. As the counter drop e.g. 50%-60%, they even have no emotion because they will just leave it there as if they don't have this counter. To conclude, if one is willing to learn, they will be able to  make money in the future whether they trade  short or long term, or becoming a shortist. Enjoy yourself here bro! Good Luck! But how many knows how to do that effectively?     If you read the news , many young , in-experience traders want to make quick buck these days but  many got burnt in the process why? Cause human behavior is all alike. No. 1) they  speculate by betting what they don't have and borrow on credit. Its true that these days some bros  and sis here have been earning kopi money..however I would like to them to analyse their earnings,  since beginning of their trading/investment? Did they earn more when they invest, or did they earn more through speculation? 2) Now lets look around us? Who are the richest men/women in the world?  Are they investors or speculators? Do you think they contra to be where they are now? Does P_Lim, WB, OHL and others make it big cause they started with big capital? These are just for discussion points, not to argue whether you are right or wrong. Cheers.

It's good to hear different view and we learn from there. There are some points which I have different view as you. Cutting Loss is essential regardless whether one play stocks for short term or invest for long term. If a company have problem like  Vard previously, it is not a good idea to continue to hold it and see it drop day by day. So we cannot rule out  loss system. Why not cut loss and use the money to buy other potential counters?. Price always moves before Fundamentals. Techincal Analysis can provide signal whether there is any problem with the company or whether there is potential in the company. Of course, TA may not be so accuarate at times because of speculation or when a market crash. To buy a counter when you see the fundamental may be too late because you   may be buying at higher price. In my opinion,  buying a potential counter or you can see the value is a better choice. The return is much higher than buying a fundamentally sound company. I agree with you that it is good to hold a counter but the issue here is how many counters can one hold. Many knows about holding stocks but you will need deep pocket to hold so many counters. Therefore, I believe many regular investors hold some and play some. When I say play, that would mean playing short term like contra. How many regulars just buy and hold without playing stocks. Yes, playing contras is not the best choice. But if one wants to play but don't have deep pocket to hold, then this is the only option. But that doesn't mean that playing contra will sure loss money. Yes, it is not easy but if you can have the correct skill, you still can makes some kopi money. On the issue of cut loss then bounce back, I think we can't avoid that. That is part and parcel of the game. Even if one hold a stock, it can still happened after he sell it. On TA wise, I agreed that no need to use so many indicators. Good luck and Huat ah

My opinion is that whether FA or TA, they are both important and just like a pair of hands, you need both of them to produce the best results. One thing I know, relying purely on fundamental analysis is very dangerous unless you are an active investor like Warren Buffett. Relying purely on technical analysis is also very dangerous because you never know when you will lose that big one. However, is heartening to see that members here who rely sorely on technical analysis have a cut loss system, which is a very wise decision. Whether one wants to be a technical trader or fundamental investor or mix, is best to know yourself - your own style, strategy, capital, risk appetite, etc...  FA + TA = FATA (prosper or HUAT in chinese). Bro Cks, i hv similar experience as you, mean my portfolio also 5 digit in red and i used to babysit them for more than a year some for a few months. After sifu friend teaching and reading SJ i started to cut loss, sold part of the red counters get fund
