To be honest, Capitaland is a lousy stock that destroy shareholder value. Capitaland is a property stock.

If you had bought a real property (be it condo, HDB, office) back in 2006 or early  2007, you would have made easily 50% to 100% capital gain, and the net  rental yield is easily 3% to 5%.

But if you had bought capitaland in 2006, you would be sitting on capital losses even after holding for 5 years and yes the dividend yield sucks at between 2% to 3%.

So even the layman on the street who is rich enough to purchase a condo (which probably cost 1/2 million in 2006 and 1 million now)  would do much better in terms of profit than the so called talented management who earned millions a year but performed far worse and capitaland shares go lower and lower year after year (not withstanding rights issues to ask shareholders to throw more $$$ into the drain).

If stocks betting is good for making a living,

then the casino is not much different...

Except that in stocks, people rationalise their punts

giving all sorts of reasons and excuses eg fundamentals,

" indicators" derived from scientific and mechnical formula ,

gut feel, psychic or spiritual means (eg tenfold returns), etc...  Smiley

To be honest I think Capitaland is the only STI stock to  have the potential to  go back to 2008  U.S. Financial crisis of $1.70 in the next few months, while most of the other STI stocks are easily 200% to 300% higher than their historical low in 2008.

goondoo, you r right. CL suffering from ailment called 'Low Investor Confidence'. If the papa  has more and more sons, and keeps giving properties to the sons, u think will grow richer or poorer? Better to invest in the sons, thought the mkt. Having said that, now the papa is building up his assets again, will gain strength when the econ outlook improves. However,  send him to nursing home if he becomes senile  and  starts  spending beyond his means.
