Bharti Tel gave up...

Now, it's Reliance Comm turn.... if failed again...

Then, Singtel has a chance right!...

another perspective w.r.t the failure to merge:

Bharti has ended its merger talks with MTN as no

consensus could be reached on the structure of the

deal. DBS Research expects SingTel’s share price to

benefit from this news in the near term due to two

key reasons (1) Bharti’s stock price has fallen by close

to 10 per cent from its peak in the last one month on

possible overpayment concerns. As Bharti constitutes

33% of our SOTP valuation for SingTel, if Bharti stages

5-10% recovery, SingTel can register 2-3% recovery.

(2) SingTel had omitted special dividends with its FY08

results (we had expected 8 cents) possibly to reserve

cash for MTN deal. With no cash outlay required for

the MTN deal now, investors can hope SingTel to

announce special dividends in FY09, given its net debt

to EBITDA at 0.9x is much below the optimal ratio of

1.5x-2.0x. Maintain Hold with TP of S$3.98.

$3.58 is Fibo 38.2% support. A break below it will see next support at 23.6% level at $3.47.

Now that the MTN "overprice" biding issue was over, ST should perform inline with market indicies esp. STI. At $3.60, it touches the multi-mth low and strong support should emerge once the market sentiment turn. Still positive for medium-longer term with ~$3.6b free cash, Vietnam M&A is on the card.

Hi. I am new here. I'm vested in Singtel as well. Looking at the chart, it has breached so many levels of support, hard to imagine it breaching below 3.60  in the medium term. Personally, I dont think the failure of MTN's deal has a very negative bearing. If market rallies next week, I think we see more upside than downside at current price. Current price could probably reflect a discount of its share in Telkomsel.

Telcos are usually national interests and are difficult to buy over.

Recall Shin Corp?
