Yes, as a newbie, it is very important to understand this ( I assume you are a newbie)...
A stock is not the same as the company. A company can exist, no matter what its stock price is.
Whereas a stock's price can go very high or go very low, the company itself may not have changed much.
In other words, stock players are all simply
betting on the price and not the company per se...
And prices can often 'go crazy'...

there are better counters out there in the shipping sectors to play rather than sticking with NOL

The freight rate and market share competition are ended in container line industry. They fail in freight rate hiking mainly due to poor market condition and over supply vessel.
Once market pick up, can expect this industry will come back fierce. definitely no in 2012.

As for NOL, lady jinx lose a few tens of billions on Merryl Lynch and City Bank also neh mind wan, so what is a few quarters of losses for NOL amounting to a few hundred millions nia nia.

NOL will survive, no worry. Singapore need it. There is a purpose why Temasek set up NOL and bought APL used to be american company.
So It won't go bankrupt.
It is matter of what price you go in. I went in at 1.05 3 months ago and ripe the profit at 1.20 and scare away by his performance.
Now, I set the enter price to 90 to 95 cents.
Summer surcharge is going to end in September, Bunker price rise back to above 650 per tons, But freight rate keep going down which is a very bad signal, the industry will suffer and bleed again in 2012.
Let's hope for 2013.

it got assets but still nothing to do with ppl intentionally dumping.
u see if the buz dont improve even u got solid assets u can only ensure u wont go bust but the big environment will be ppl ignore this counter n those holding on cant get out at breakeven not to mention profit.
so everything equal only those daring with INSIDER info can enter to buy at CHEAP price. average joe better to avoid mho.

2) the same $ u can park in reits at least
3) fundamental nothing to do with share price i.e. it maybe a damn fundamentally strong coy with strong backing but the shares ppl dump so u buy shares for loyalty or for profits, tat is reality.
4) when price keep falling for long time, there r alot of ppl kena trapped at various price level so when it moves up a little it will kena heavy selling so unless there is damn good reason for it cheong otherwise buying a long time dive shares is itself suicidal |

Wait to collect at 90cents and below.
The NAV is continue to be eroded and debt keep raising.
1 dollar cannot support it anymore. It is the matter of time to reach below 90cents.
I'm thinking this company will neber go bankrupt wan.

Can't earn money from March to June 2012 when the freight rate is peak in 2011 and 2012. How she can earn money in the following month. What 500 million saving plan? Maersk didn't announce anything but manage to save and make profit in 2Q.
