Hi Cheongwee , I  took profit almost 70 % of my holding and left the rest which is all free , thinking of selling off  if the trend is unsustainable . This is my trading  habits .

Mermaid was moving up fast last few days , along the way up runaway gaps had created , it is difficult to distinguish the runaway gap from exhaustion gap , so at this stage , we must immediately place protective stop-loss orders close to the gap price . Even if we think it will be an exhaustion gap , we do not need to close our position , we can wait until more evidence is present .

guys,

I;'m sorry, I am a FA and corporate finance person.

I do not look at charts to make many of my investment decisions except to see volumn and price history.

here are my reasons for my investment decision in mermaid. Not trying to influence anyone here.

Shareholder movement:

1. As of 15 May 2009, 95% of the issued share capital in the hands of top 20 shareholders.only 25m shares with the rest of the shareholders (ie you and me).

implications: stock is cornered. BB can move price and volume. that explains the huge volatility.

2. Financials : reported loss in 2nd quarter but if one looks carefully at the data, they did recognised all costs of projects secured but zero revenue reconigtion. subsequent quarters will be fantastic.

2a. stock was trading 29c discount to it NTA when I entered position.

I took a comparison with its compeitive coys. Swiber, Ezra, Mermaid was severaly undervalued. Trading below NTA while the rest had a 1.2time premium above NTA.

2b. earnings per share is on a uptrend.

3. IPO price:

IPO was $1.50 in 2006. the coy raised a lot of money but the founders did not benefit much.

Many a times, these counters will have some deal with BB to push the counter down.. to rock bottom, pick up stock ie 25c -50c.....then follow with good newsflow like new  deals etc to push the counter up.

mermaid belongs to this category of stocks that I usually long and add position. Very very profitable.

No need to trade it frequently.

* a similar stock i had like this was Singapore Ship. 2003-2004, made a huge 6 digit killing holding the stock for 9 months.

* mermaid, unfortunately, do not have a large amount as vested in Achieva for RTO but hoping to hit my TP of 1.2 in 2 mths time when the July/aug reporting season starts. Mermaid, I'm sure will report a good number.

Expect a major dip when it hits NTA price and overshoot a little before a pullback....but won't be long or much. I'll just take some profit and if it drops to a comfortable price.. add position for next wave up to $1 mark. Patience is your friend with mermaid. LOL

I bought Swiber too, & had sold it long ago for profit. However  Swiber still interest me & i may go in again when its price drop.

As for Mermaid, i'm quite interested as well. But the rally is ongoing fr a while already (worry may interest may died out soon). Anyway will do a study on this baby

this weekend & decide whether to go in on Monday. Cheers.

Friday's volume is already half of the free float.

Lots of churning going on. Unless the top 20 shareholders are starting to sell shares. I doubt so.

BB are realling pushing counter up and will probably conitnue to till it hit NTA price of a slight premium.

that is where a major correction is to be expected till it regroup and cheong past $1.

I'm cleared with14c profit so just sit tight.

Agreed & the other reason for it (as i had stated at the Mercator Forum as well) is that the BDI index is already quite high up already.

The BDI index at 3646 as at 8 Jun, is up fourfold since Jan this year . A correction may come soon.

Once got profit, better go for cover first. As Mercator is dependent on BTI index.

Mercator 's chart is showing weakness n tiredness , even the price went below 10 day MA , could go down to the 30 day MA at 33 cents , place your stop loss n cut loss if possible .

Sorry. Mistaken. the competitive classes are Ezra in the O&G class of companies.

Profit/revenue visibilities for such stocks are even more visible due to oil price and long term nature of such contracts as oppose to shipping stocks.

Premiums are even steeper for such stocks.

cheongwee      ( Date: 12-Jun-2009 19:59) Posted:

excuse me...i thk you are mistaken, i hope no offence...this is not a shipping stock..check.

victorian2      ( Date: 12-Jun-2009 16:30) Posted:

still early days. price to book not even 1X.

most of the shipping stocks valued at 1.2- 1.5X  book value so over time, there will be room to move.
