STI will turn more greenish in afternoon trade  as Euro industrial output rallies sharply.

http://www.skynews.com.au/businessnews/article.aspx?id=896403

Industrial output in the 17-nation eurozone has bounced back sharply in June.

A pointer that the single currency bloc is finally edging out of recession, official data shows.

With overall growth figures for the 2nd Qtr  due on Wed, expected to show a switch out of recession.

GDP revised up..STI can ketchup with S& P?

Singapore Economy: 2013 GDP growth forecast upgraded to 2.5-3.5%

Summary: According to the MTI, the Singapore economy grew by 3.8% YoY in 2Q13, better than the street?s expectations of 3.5% growth, and also better than the 0.2% growth seen in 1Q13. On a seasonally adjusted, annualised basis, the economy expanded by 15.5% QoQ, and was significantly higher than the 1.7% expansion in 1Q13. This was mainly driven by manufacturing, which grew by 32.1% QoQ, reversing the 12.1% contraction in 1Q13, largely due to higher output in the biomedical manufacturing and electronics clusters. Construction grew by 11.2%, compared to 1Q13?s 10.3% growth. Finally, services expanded by 11.5% after 1Q13?s 7.8% rise, driven mainly by the wholesale & retail trade and the transportation & storage sectors. As global macroeconomic conditions are expected to pick up in 2H13, the MTI has upgraded Singapore?s 2013 GDP growth forecast from 1.0-3.0% to 2.5-3.5%. (Low Pei Han)

S'pore Q2 GDP grows stronger-than-expected 3.8%: MTI

THE Singapore economy grew more than earlier expected in Q2, expanding 3.8 per cent year-on-year in Q2 as a surprisingly strong showing from the services sector offset manufacturing's weaker performance in June.

Poorer than anticipated exports and industrial production growth in June led most private-sector economists to believe that the government's advance Q2 estimate of 3.7 per cent year-on-year growth would be revised downwards.

But this seemed less likely after the Prime Minister announced last Thursday that Singapore grew 2 per cent year-on-year for the first half of 2013. Mr Lee also announced a hike in Singapore's full-year growth forecast to 2.5-3.5 per cent, from an earlier 1-3 per cent.

After seasonal adjustments, GDP grew an annualised 15.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter in Q2, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said on Monday morning. This beat both the flash estimate of 15.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter growth, as well as the consensus market forecast of 14.2 per cent.

US stocks look set to climb, Fed willing

Traders focused on Fed tapering, not economy: analysts

AFTER last week's tumble, the Dow Jones Industrial Average may steady itself to hit yet more all-time highs barring surprises from the Federal Reserve.

A jittery market has become an excitable market. In the 2013 rally, investors have ceased worrying about the next crisis and started to worry about missing out on the next rally.

Despite losing ground last week, the Dow is up nearly 20 per cent this year and is only about 2 per cent from its record highs. Almost every time the index took a big hit last week, it drew buying from bulls instead of the pile-on of bears market watchers have come to expect.

Second-quarter earnings season is far from a runaway success, with companies warning of slowing demand. But investors had apparently expected worse. More than two thirds of the 446 companies from the S& P 500 who have reported earnings have exceeded the Wall Street target.
