Oil issues.. yes, this is true. Then again, this oil issues has always plagued the airlines industry. That's why they hedge.
I still like SIA, but am waiting patiently for this 380tonne baby to fall. hehehhee...
WOW,
S$13.42 liao ! Next time when travel, also see budget airline counter, equally crowded. Oil keep going up, all airlines suffered, because they sell their tickets before hand.

Next time when you are travelling with SQ you may look around to  see that most of their flights are full and I think this low price of $13.58 is a golden opportunity to get and hopefully when the Middle East saga has been more or less stabilise  it shares prices  will start to move up very fast |

DJ MARKET TALK: Airlines& apos Earnings At Risk As Jet Fuel Soars -DMG
  24 Feb 2011 4:31pm
0832 GMT [Dow Jones] With jet fuel prices hitting a fresh 2-year high, sparked by unrest in Libya, DMG says it sees airlines' earnings possibly at risk, as fuel represents as much as 30%-35% of expenses. The house says a $1 increase on its base jet fuel price assumption would hit earnings by 0.6%-7.2% over the next two years.
It notes, jet fuel prices rose 18% YTD to $123.60/bbl, surpassing its average forecast of $110 for 2011, 2012. " No airline will be spared, although SIA (C6L.SG) commands pricing power on its fuel surcharge in the premium segment while budget carriers can offset the adverse impact via higher ancillary fees and their 'no fuel surcharge' marketing gimmick." DMG stays Overweight on sector, as it believes the situation is temporary, travel demand will continue to be buoyant.
Prefers SIA, budget carriers " airlines with strong balance sheets and which are not highly-leveraged such as SIA would be able to withstand the higher oil prices." SIA off 1.4% at S$13.68, Tiger Airways (J7X.SG) down 2.2% at S$1.36. (matthew.allen@dowjones.com)
the higher the oil goes..the more the price of SQ will continue to decline

Kim Eng maintains rating and $18.90 price target, pegged at 1.6X P/B, after SIA announced January load factors of 78.1 and 61.4 per cent for passenger and cargo, respectively. Says that " while load factors remain satisfactory, our primary concerns at this juncture are a potential flattening of yields and the high price of jet fuel, which currently stands at US$118.90 per barrel, the highest in 28 months" .
